What should I be expecting from 4G speeds?

I live in a non-4G area, so when I travel to 4G areas, I expect a huge difference, but my typical online actions didn't seem any faster. I did a speed check and found that was getting around 4 or 5 mb down. Is that about normal? This is definitely faster than my 3G speeds, but in typical scenarios, opening a webpage, loading Flipboard or GReader or G+, the difference is hardly noticeable. Does that sound usual? I suppose if I had downloads to perform I would see a significant difference.

Your speed will vary. When I first got my GNEX my download speed never went over 10. Then one day it jumped to consistently between 15 and 20 so I assume a change was made in the tower I connect to. I can travel around town and my speed will again vary with up to 30 in Pensacola, FL. In Las Vegas I got 39 down consistently.

True 4g is unmistakable :). Strong signal gets me more than 40mb/s down and ~18 up in St Paul. Also with about 100ms ping, which is important as well.

So, why is the 4G in San Diego (took tests in a few different locations) so poor, I wonder?

This was inside my apartment where signal isn't as strong

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Android Central Forums

50-60ms ping on the s jersey shore area gave me 22-24mbs but a second later i lost signal Love my nexus NOT!

i typically get 8-12 Mbps at home (near Philadelphia), 1 mile away from my house i get 20+ Mbps. location is everything. Also, if you are using an app like SpeedTest, then the server you connect to can make a huge difference too.
