What should I look for before buying a Samsung Galaxy S3?

There's a local shop that sells New Phones and Used Phones. A new GS3 will cost me 400$. That's kind of expensive for me anyway, there is a the shop has a used Galaxy s3 that costs 280$, it is in excellent shape, but the seller told me that it has no manufacturer warranty, instead he gave me a 10 days warranty from the shop being the manufacturer, which mean the sellers will repair the phone if something goes wrong in those 10 days. That's why I'm having my doubts about the phone, why is it only 10 days warranty from the shop? Maybe the phone is corrupt?
Anyway, can you tell me what should I look for before buying it? Is it worth it? I'm really paranoid :/

I think that price is a little high for a S3. Closer to 200-225 from my experience.

Definitely too much for the S3. I'm not sure of your price restrictions, but I'd suggest you look with your carrier. 10 days just isn't enough. Sorry!

I think 10 days is a fair amount of time from a small private shop since they don't have the budget like big store, $280 is decent price if it's an international unlocked quadcore S3, the American carrier dualcore locked ones maybe cheaper. You can buy warranty for your device from SquareTrade.

Ask if the shop can run the device imei through this website to check if it have a clean history: SNDeepInfo - All information on the phone's IMEI or serial number
Ask if you can put in your sim to make sure call and data are working.

Depending on the carrier, they're going for about $200 on Swappa.

As an ex-cellphone store owner, I would never give less than a 90 day warranty on a phone. If I didn't trust it to last that long I'd strip it for parts.

The phones in my country are kind of expensive, a new Galaxy S3 cost around 400$, so I'll be saving 120$. It's either that or the a new S3 mini for 245$, or an S2 plus for 270$.
