I actually have not gotten any books or magazines yet. However, I do know there is always the Gutenburg Project which has been doing free books for awhile now. Just search Project Gutenburg. In addition, Google has a big bookstore, I am sure there are free ones from them as well.

The built in Zinio app seems to work well-at least for the freebies. Personally I wouldn't pay for a magazine on that app but it does have a large inventory

If your looking for indepent authors, the best source is Smashwords . DRM free and all price ranges.

I've been using overdrive.com to check books out of my local library and have them sent to my tablet via the free Kindle app / Amazon.com. It's pretty nice...all you need is a library card.

We (read: my wife) uses that with the nook app. She has a nook touch so she mostly uses the nook app on the TF too.

I use the overdrive app from the market. It does library books and audio books. Not the best selection but its hard to argue wih free!
