If you haven't already done something, might be worth doing a warranty exchange on the old one (I'm sure you can come up with something), return the bought one, and wear the exchanged one until v2 comes out.

Well just for the curious I did end up selling the old one and I sold it fairly cheap and was open about what was wrong with it. It should be fine though as it has been working flawlessly ever since it dried out.

I also got a very cheap metal band for the new one, but I am seriously trying to resist the urge to buy a poly link band for it. This one... Amazon.com: Replacement Black Polyurethane Link Bracelet Band 22mm for Luminox 3000 and 3900 Series Watches: Watches to be exact. I know it won't fit out of the box but it should be pretty easy to modify it to work.
