What was your phone before the Bionic?

iPhone 3Gs (3G was my first smartphone, but iPhones are no where near as durable as Droids!) with AT&T.

I switched because I wanted 4G speed and the Verizon network. I really like the customized nature of Android, but hate the update process through VzW. Fortunately, HoB provided me with ICS a couple months early (should've done it way before then).

..sorry but I've come across people that had/have DROID 2s or DROID Xs that looked like complete garbage after a few months of use.

Just to provide a giggle, I'll admit that my first Motorola CELL PHONE was a Star Tac (back then the only thing a man would brag about having the smallest was his cell phone and now, oddly, it's all about thinnest ^~^ ). A few years before that it was my Motorola radiophone, with the suitcase sized box in the trunk and handset control box under the dashboard. At least it was VHF HI band so the antenna was only about 17" high.

So I won't be fully satisfied with GG or Pebble until they no longer still need a box on my belt . . .

Nibble by byte, weaning from google

Palm pre plus.

Loved that phone, but bad construction plagued the little web os phone.

I'm sure you have, but I've observed way more bricked (often due to very light moisture exposure) or cracked iPhones over the years as opposed to Moto Droids. My Bionic has withstood considerable use and wear admirably.

Yeah, mine has had no case and still physically looks like new.

Droid 2 Global...touch screen went bad before I had a chance to use the "global" feature(s).

Droid X at release, the commercials on TV got me. First smart phone and hooked on Android. Got the Bionic on release (I'm a sucker for promotions) and it has been fantasitc. DX still with me and in perfect shape. Keep it for backup.

OUCH!

Here's what my phone history has been before I got the BIONIC:
Motorola Q
Motorola Q9 (got this when I had a chance to upgrade at the time.)
Blackberry Curve 8330
Blackberry Curve 8530 (got this for the same reason I got the Q9. Didn't work out as well. Crappy battery.)
Blackberry Curve 9330 (got this as a warranty replacement for the 8530. Better battery life.)
Blackberry Bold 9650
LG Enlighten (got this because I wanted an android phone. This one didn't have enough memory for my needs.)
Current phone (Droid BIONIC. Will serve my needs until I can get out of my contract with Verizon without paying an ETF.)

One reason I love Motorola. My wife had a Samsung and mother had a HTC, both busted with a fall. I've dropped my bionic tons and tons of times, without a case, and other than a few minor dings on corners, it's been running like a champ.

First cell I had was a Nokia 2170 on Sprint. Then I got a LG Chocolate on Verizon, was an over bloated MP3 player basically. 2 years later, moved back to Sprint and got a LG Optimus S. First android phone. Rocking Gingerbread at the time. Still have the phone too, just no service. Took amazing crystal clear photos too, being only 3.2mp. Moved from Houston to Ohio and discovered that Sprint service up here was extremely poor, dropped signal, dropped calls - no towers within range of the house. Mind you, I'm also living in a highly populated area of Upper-Middle class to lower upper-class community. Paid out the remainder of my Sprint contract for the wife and myself (300$) and switched back to Verizon. Picked up both our Bionics for 200$, by far one of the best decisions I've made in phone brands, models and features. I did extensive research on reviews, specs, face-offs against other phones available from the carriers at the time. This being 18 months ago.. I don't regret to this day getting the Bionic. I think the only thing better would be to have a Nexus phone that isn't tied to a carrier, directly from google.

I thank (in my own head) Sam for his dedication to the HOB programing, without him, we'd have been behind on so many updates, news and features while waiting for VZW to get their corporate heads out of their butts and give the public what was promised. If/when I decide to retire the bionic, provided that JB doesn't perform or meet my expectation on the Bionic, it will be to a Nexus phone that I can carry to any network of my choice, unsubsidized and fully paid for. For now, I don't see my retiring my Bionic in the foreseeable future, it was designed for future tech and has held up against some of the current dual-core models being released at double it's initial cost. Can't say that it competes with the new quad-core models out today though.

Those of us that have the Bionic should be ensured in our own choice to purchase the phone, that it was a great decision. Solid phone, business class apps and hardware inside. It's just a great phone all around. Can't wait for the JB update to push OTA and get "Project Butter" and Google Now featured on it. Only thing that would have made the Bionic better, a NFC radio chip on board.

The palm pre+...over clocked and patched to the hilt... still miss some features and apps..but now I'm an android man and couldn't be happier.
