What went wrong?

It should flash fine with xionia recovery. I've used CWMA v1.2518.4 numerous times to flash aosp and updates for it. Worked every time, just got tired of things not working in the rom. It still has bugs and I for one would like to have everything on my phone working correctly.

Really? I thought it was only the camera that wasn't working. I just really do want to try out gingerbread to see what it is like.

In aospCM7, Camera works but not autofocus, and zoom doesn't stay in effect when you snap the pic. Bluetooth only works partially. Everything else workd great!

To save yourself headaches, use the recovery the dev of the ROM you are going to flash recommends.

Okay, so let me get this straight. This is what I am going to do exactly:

1. Start Rom Manager and make a Nandroid Backup.
2. Start TitaniumBackup and click Menu Key>>Batch>>Backup all user apps
3. Download the newest ClockworkMod Recovery from the xda developer site here
3A.Put the .img file on my sd card
4. Put aospCM7, found in this post on my sd card, as well as gapps from that post.
5. I currently have the xionia recovery on my phone, so I will need to flash over the ClockworkMod one. To do this I will open up command prompt, then type

A) su
B) mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /system /system
C) flash_image recovery /sdcard/aospCWMod-VM670-20110531.img
D) reboot recovery

I will now be in recovery.

From here I will:
1. Click Wipe cache
2. Click Advanced>> Wipe Dalvik Cache
3. Click Mounts, then format:

A) data
B) cache
C) boot
D) system

4. Click install zip from sd card
5. Click asopCM7-VM670-20110601-signed.zip
6. Once it is finished, click GApps
7. Click Reboot System Now.
8. I should be in the new rom.
9. I have no idea how to bring back over all my apps from titanium backup, but I'm sure a bit of searching can help with that.

Does this all look right?

10. Setup your google accounts on the phone so that you can use the Market
11. Install TitaniumBackup from the Market
12.a If you have the pay version, run the batch to restore all of your programs.
12.b If you have the free version, you'll have to restore your apps one by one.

Looks about right. You probably don't have to change recoveries, but it can't hurt.

Failure! Finally got to trying it today, and it didnt work. Here's what the phone said:

--Installing: /sdcard/aospCMod-VM670-20110601-signed.zip

Success! I finally did it! I have a couple of questions. There are a few things I forgot to backup from the original ROM. Can I make a nandroid backup of this ROM, go back to the nandroid backup of the old one, backup my things, and then restore back to cm7? I may need a bigger sd card...

Edit: Nevermind, It worked.
