What will it take to get you interested in a Pixel 4/4XL?

I guess this is the point I was trying to make (poorly it seems). I don’t find Googles software experience any better than Samsung’s in 2019 for example, in most cases anyway. In the past, it seemed like an improved experience for me. In 2019, it just seems to be fine, but not a draw for me. Others certainly will disagree here. I guess it’s great to have choice.

I agree. I do like the Google experience but I personally don't think it's leaps and bounds above what Samsung has to offer today.

I'm totally okay with on screen no issues on my Note .. it will only improve as we move forward.
Agreed. I was okay with the fps and it's issues with the S10+. The N10+ in my experience is even better than the S10+ so I'm even more okay with it.

I have never used FPS or the Face ID. Since my phone is never far from my side, I have no screen lock on it.

I hope with the fps and all.
That if I loose my phone.
Or if somebody steals it.
That it creates Havick for them trying to use it.
Hope I can track them.

What's the advantage of removing it from the back of the phone in the first place?
Have you ever tried unlocking your phone citing on a flat surface? You can't lol.

Finger print sensor located at the front where you don't have to pick up the phone every time you want to unlock it makes total sense. Let's not forget, that where it has been (front of the phone), before some OEMs moved it to the back to cut bezels down. So fast forward few years, it is now back at the front of the phone.

Takes 2 hands to operate.

If a note is laying down.
Tap the screen 2 times.
You can see what's going oh.
Don't even have to unlock it.

-In DisplayFingerprint sensor on my S10+ is frustrating at times....so won't miss that.
-All screen is overrated. Give me a great flat screen and if you need some real estate for sensors use it just keep the phone balanced.
-Not sure I need my phone to charge faster, just make sure you give it a big enough battery

From what it seems I’m one of those few people who are perfectly fine with curved screens and use them without encountering any issues.

As for the battery, the regular Pixel 4 looks as if it will have awful battery life :(

And in my opinion FPS > facial recognition

Is it possible, the Pixel 4 software can manage the battery more efficiently, giving the battery life of a bigger battery?

2700mAh powering a 5.6/5.7 inch 90hz QHD OLED display can only last so long. It’s not like battery life has been radically improved by Android Q and the higher efficiency of the 7nm 855 is negated by the larger and higher refresh screen.

Not to mention that the battery size has decreased.

Good points, thanks.

This is what I'm hoping, but that 90 MHz screen calls for concern if they can actually pull all this off..

That shouldn't be a concern unlike my 1+7pro it can automatically adjust between 60hz and 90hz depending on content
1+7pro you manually do it .

I’ll be surprised if the battery life of the Pixel 4 is the same as on the Pixel 3. To me, the numbers simply don’t add up. The Pixel 3 had a 2,900mAh (approx) battery powering a 5.5 inch 60hz FHD OLED display with 3 cameras and a 10nm processor.

The Pixel 4, by the looks of it, will have a 5.6/5.7 inch 90hz FHD OLED display, 2700mAh battery and 4 cameras in total with a 7nm chip. Yes, small gains might be made in efficiency with the chipset and Android 10 but this will be negated by the smaller battery, larger display and higher refresh rate. Poor battery life looks unfortunately likely :(

The 4 XL is a different story.

Glad you brought up the chipset architecture - I hadn't really given thought to the degree of efficiency moving to 7nm architecture would provide. Turns out that, generally speaking, a 7nm chip is about 40% more efficient than 10nm. If that's accurate and were that the only difference in devices, the P4 could have come with a 2100mAh battery and come out about the same, or with its 2700mAh battery would be equivalent to what the P3 would achieve with a 3,780mAh battery.

Of course, that's just the processor - the screen at higher refresh will certainly eat into that surplus. And then there's all the new sensors. The question becomes, to what degree.

It's entirely possible that those who tend to frequently use apps that are much more taxing on the CPU may find that they get comparable or even better life on the 4 with the smaller battery. Of course, those who don't run CPU-intensive tasks on their 3 won't see as substantial an energy savings there, and so will almost certainly see diminished effective battery life.

Have to wait and see I suppose. Google may well have screwed up horribly with the 4, given that one of the chief complaints about the 3 was the battery life, but maybe - just maybe - they did ok.

Personally, I'm hoping that the 4 is fully on par with the 3 in terms of effective battery life, because if it is then the 4XL should have substantially better life than the 3XL which, for me, has nearly always been more than sufficient for a day.

What I would want on the Pixel 4, does not seem like it will come

1. Cool colors - i'm sorry, but that not so orange...????! comon google, come up with better colors
2. Wide angle camera - From all the leaks, it does not seem like it will be getting this at all?
3. In screen fingerprint reader
4. Priced below 799 - probably highly unlikely. Price was really the only reason why I switched to the Pixel 3XL, and that was when it went on sale.

I am curious to try the OnePlus 7T.. and really want the Huawei Mate 20 pro.

I have a note 10 with the in screen fps.
Takes 2 hands to operate.
And it does not work as well as the FPS on the back.
Before anybody suggest it.
I don't like facial unlock.

It seems that the folks at Google don't even use their own phones.
Or they would know what we want.

And what about upgrading the phones to this yrs hdw and software.

How is it , a lot of other phone mfg has a lot of new upgrades every year.
But as bad as we wish.
Pixel seems to want us to wonder, when they are going to surprise us with real upgrades phones like we want.

I thought pixel wanted to compete with iPhones.

I was already interested but after seeing the sample photos I'm even more interested.

I agree. At best the P4 might have the same battery life as the 3 but seeing the capacity shrink is concerning
