I've been unable to find a comprehensive list of what works when the non-3g S2 is connected to your phone via wifi (as opposed to bluetooth) and what doesn't. (The system seems mostly designed for a local wifi network to give the watch access to the phone, not so much to the general internet.) There are definitely some things that only work over bluetooth. So thought I'd start a list, and update as others share their knowledge. So if you've got some experience and firm knowledge, please weigh in.

What works via wifi:
  • Messages
  • Email
  • standard notifications
  • News retrieval (Bloomberg, CNN, News Briefing)
  • Calendar
  • Milk Music

What does not seem to work via wifi:
  • Navigation (Here nav, Maps, Gear Navigator, Komoot, things requiring location)
  • Weather updating (though some report it works w wifi)
  • Music Player

Please post corrections and additional info.

Can milk music work as a stand alone app on wifi? It could on the gear s but I couldn't get it to the other day when working out.
Milk music on the watch really just seems like a remote for the phone app, and the music player app worked better as a remote.

Milk Music worked for me in what it called "standalone mode" via wifi, but I think it's still working through my phone. (Haven't had a chance to try it with no phone on the network.) Seems like in general the watch's wifi works as a way to connect to the phone, not as a way to connect directly to the internet. Not sure if that's due to hardware or software limitations.

I turned the bluetooth off on my phone and had my bluetooth headphones synced to the watch. I tried to load Milk on the watch and it told me I needed to connect to the phone. I was at home with wifi connection.

Milk works when connecting to my home wifi network. My phone's wifi and bluetooth are turned off.

First of all thank you very much for the list mate. I was wondering about that and I wanted to test if I will be able to notifications alerts (like whatsapp, Gmail ..etc) if my phone is left at home connected to wifi the watch is with me at work Also connected to wifi...
