After 3 Galaxy's within my family, I'm personally moving away from the Samsung device. Here's why? Repeated update failures on multiple bone stock devices.

My next upgrade in March will be a Nexus.

What's yours?

Well I went with the HTC one and then the Moto X. All my devices end up running AOSP regardless of the manufacturer so the software doesn't matter and I'm not a spec junkie like I used to be. I look more at build quality now and after owning an HTC and moto device I just can't go back.

I thought I wouldn't buy more phones for a couple years but... Unless there's a chance in circumstances, I think I'll get:

Xperia Z1 for the SD
Nexus 6
Blackberry z10 when the price drops again

I agree with you except, is it really Samsung's fault or is it the carriers fault that the updates don't work by the time we get them......??

Yeah...as wonderful as the Samsung device support community is, I'll probably move away from Samsung. Too many stupid quirks for my liking. I'm really liking the look of the Xperia Z series. HTC will be gone by the time I'm ready to upgrade...or they won't have anything compelling to offer which is a shame. I've been a fan of their hardware and even their stock Sense UI.

Hopefully T-Mobile isn't swallowed up by Softbank/Sprint and I'll move to their network.

My last 5 phones have been HTC. I'm currently leaning towards LG as their successor

I have only owned two smartphones, I moved from feature phones to the epic 4g and then to the galaxy s3. I am eligible for upgrade in April, I will look at my options and make a decision at that time though even though nothing is known about it yet, I am leaning towards the s5 as it is just a progression from what I have done. Note: while I have only owned two, I have used many of the other phones on the market just not on a long term basis.

I've been pretty happy with my S3, really no major issues. My upgrade is in February so I think I may just sit back and see what everyone brings to the table this coming Spring.
If Samsung releases the same form factor as the SIII/SIV I may jump ship. I really liked the HTC One so I'll be waiting to see what they bring to the table.

If nothing blows me away I'll probably go the Nexus route.

Just got back from a great time and supper with my brothers and there wife's. One of my brothers had the new Galaxy Note 3 with the watch. Pretty slick phone. Had the 4.3 android system on it, and honestly it was smooth, not slow and quirky like on my S3. At this point I will probably just hold on to what I have for a while.

As of now I plan on keeping the S3 for a while, I have it modded to where I really like the set up, but if it breaks I will have to decide between a Moto X or Nexus 5.
