I don't expect the number of divices sold per day has already hit 225k, but I don't understand what you think is BS about that? They are already selling 2 million devices every ten days, so an extra quarter million isn't really crazy (even if it's a bit soon yet). By the holidays they will probably be well past that IMO..

I meant BS about ANY of those numbers. Idk, call me skeptical but by now, every American should have an Android device according to their numbers lol. I know I know, this number includes Int'l and devices like Nooks, tablets, etc. But I just find it to be wayyy too many "activations" compared to the smaller market share the (most definitely growing) Android OS has. Sure, Android is skyrocketing but I still think it should be muchhh higher if the numbers Google is reporting are true.

My guess would be the new revamped market and that adobe Flash is hitting the phones with 2.2 starting tomorrow I.E. since there was already a post here about flash working on the Droid 2 and that others would come soon. so maybe Droid 2 and another phone getting it starting tomorrow.

Small market share? Who's numbers are you looking at? Android is number one smartphone os in America.

Likely web based market with Music and DRM free books (we can but wish). Would love to see a proper VOIP solution as Skype have let the Android world down and I can not get alternatives like Nimbuzz to work consistently. If that includes video, fine, but not a huge issue for me. We in Europe have had Video calling for 4-5 years over wi-fi and 3G and although more people are using it, it is still not the killer app that the US seems to think it is at the moment (most of the time I would not want to scare the hell out of the person I am talking to by showing them my delightful image ).

Anyway, we will know soon.

Sorry, I think you just aren't adding the numbers correctly. There's a reason why all independent trackers have found Android phones sales blowing past iOS device sales in Q2, and if you tracked Apple's sales numbers and the amount of marketshare that Android is making up this rapidly there's no way those numbers can be far off.

Let's do a thought experiment: as you said those sales include international units; I'd guess that maybe 50-60% are actual US sales. But even if they were all domestic (for the sake of argument) there are just under 310,000,000 people in the U.S., of which perhaps 80% of them are in the age range where they could own cell phones. If only half of that 80% wanted to buy cell phones (which is a lowball estimate) that's still 124,000,000, and it would take almost two years to sell an Android phone to all of them. If we break out the foreign market sales and use a more reasonable proportion of possible owners and account for population growth we're looking at around 3 years before everyone ones one (and of course during that time a LOT of people will buy a second phone)

Now, back to reality: some people are not going to buy smartphones, let alone Android smartphones. If the rate of sales in the U.S. is more than half of current sales (i.e. if it's 100k units) then I'd guess that the market is probably going to saturate in the next 18-24 months, after which unit sales will decline towards normal phone replacement, much like in the feature phone market.

Of course, manufacturers will try to maintain smartphone sales by introducing new "must-have" features I'm sure. Perhaps Verizon and other carriers will even cooperate and make phone replacement NE1 rather than NE2 (but with an even more expensive fee for leaving early). But sooner or later the specter or value pricing will rear its head and smartphones will become commoditized.

Anyways, there's no reason to be suspicious of the sales numbers, they are in line with the market development. This is the real reason why companies like Nokia and more recently RIM are seeing their stock devalue; they are losing marketshare AND seeing their sales prices decline when right when the market is taking off; if they can't climb back into the game in the next 12 months it will literally be too late (for Nokia I expect it already is...RIM has perhaps one or two more shots to make a compelling candybar touchscreen or otherwise convince consumers to give them another look...the Torch won't do it I suspect).

Guys, I *seriously* doubt that Google is doing a press conference to announce someone else's product. I can't imagine them going up there and being like "Look at HTC's next phone. Peace!" or "Check it out, Netflix is coming to Android."

No, HTC and Netflix would handle that stuff.


Google is absolutely, 100% showing off something that Google does, something that Google has been working on. I mean, they might also throw in a quick little goodie at the end like "oh, and this'll all work even better on your new Project Emerald," but the actual point of the announcement will be something Google does.
