Whats the difference between a Battery pull and power off

I have noticed that on a couple of occasions just powering the EVO down using the power button did not fix my problem. The other day I was having an issue where my POP mail was not receiving every 15 minutes like it should have been. I turned the power off (Hold power button for a couple of seconds chose power off from the menu) then back on again using the power button but this did not fix the problem. I then took the battery out and put it back in and that resolved the issue. Today I was coming in to work and I noticed that my EVO was staying on more than one minute on battery power it should have turned its self off but did not. I checked the settings and it indeed was set to turn off after one minute. I tested again leaving the EVO on for 5 minutes but it did not turn off. I then turned the power off using the power button (Hold for a couple of seconds chose power off from the menu) when I tried to turn it back on it would not turn on at all I had to take the battery out to get it to turn back on.

My question is this normal? Do I have to pull the battery every time I need a soft reset?

battery pull kills power to to the device immediately, kills all current tasks. could result in loss of data or corruption ect.
Power off, safely shuts down running tasks as to avoid data loss or corruption.

Make sure that you wait at least a minute before powering back on. Remember, the Evo is a mini computer, so all processes need to stop before restarting again.

So your thinking I am not waiting long enough when I power down and that the battery pull is not necessary? If thats the case I will try waiting longer next time.

Really don't think waiting would make a difference. If the phone is shut down, it's shut down. Nothing will be running.

Not true. Think about shutting your computer down. You need to wait for processes to stop. When you shut your phone off, the screen does indeed go dark, but you need to wait a bit before turning it back on in order to give it time to stop all running processes.

With a computer you can tell when it finally shuts down and with Windows 7 the screen doesn't black out until it cuts the power. It might be different with other OS's though. I have no idea if the phone cuts power to the screen prior to a full shutdown.
