Hey guys iam new to rooting. I really want to get my evo rooted so i can use the wifi free. I have seen many ways but what is the most up to date one as of today? And is it pretty easy? I consider my self pretty good with tech lol

Full root method in the sticky. Temporary root Z4root, however I DO NOT recommend. Unrevolked is also a good option.

which unrevoked should i use? and is it gonna wipe all my data? i know there is a unrevoked3 and unrevoked forever for the evo

i just watched a video on youtube of a guy that used unrevoked3 and just hit a couple buttons and it was rooted.. is it really that easy? than go to the market and download the free wifi tether? other than that will all my other apps update and stuff?

For the most part it is. You have to install drivers and have the unrevoked reflash_package.exe file downloaded from their site. Unrevoked will do everything and plus it says when the phone will reboot and what not. Just make sure your video is the updated version just in case something might have change. Example would be extra reboot or something like that. You could get the free tether from the market or the one from the sticky. That part is up to you.

Yes your apps will update as normal. No worries there.

Does it on its own. Once the program starts you don't touch a thing! Just sit back and watch the magic happen lol. Isn't much to watch but you get the point

Is thier a guide to what you can do after getting unrevoked?

When you mean a guide after getting unrevoked, do you really mean after you root?

If so then not to my knowledge, but a quick rundown would be: ROMs, Kernels, themes, fonts, change splash screen (htc image when first booting up) and bootloader screen (now network - second screen), change system sounds, much of the custom ROMs have the sprint hotspot unlock so you don't need the app either from the market or the sticky and so on.

This post -> http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...fo-guide-rooting-faq-general-information.html from igotsanevo4g might be helpful. Somethings you might already know but some could be very helpful for future reference.

Edit: I forgot about this one. http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...hacks/61188-evo-rom-kernel-goodies-bible.html It is also from igotsanevo4g, it list popular ROMs, kernels, themes and so on

Yes they will work. Unrevoked 3.x.x gives full root so you can do those things.

Once you start it becomes addicting lol. As always be sure to read and understand what is happening when doing anything. It will help from things going wrong.

Is there a way back to stock from revoked? And iam guessing kernals are like getting gingerbread right?

Yes, you will download unrevoked s-on tool and the stock ruu (rom update utility). There is a sticky for that as well.
This will be the stock unrooted rom. Just as if you got it right out of the box.

Edit: Forgot to mention the kernel. lol As for the kernel, think of it as the bridge to connect you apps and hardware together so your phone can communicate with itself. Getting Gingerbread would be like getting the ROM.

Congrats man!

I run CM7 and I wouldn't call myself a heavy user. I don't play games but I do get a lot of e-mails, text, and plus I do spend some time on the internet. I leave wifi & 3g on all the time because I'm always near wifi. I do turn it off if I will be away from a connectible source. My battery life is usually around 16 to 18 hrs.

Now what I have notice is making phone calls will drain the battery fast. No way around that from what I heard.

Also, if your flashing a bunch of ROMs to find the one you want your battery will drain fast as well. No getting around this.
