What's the point of a microsd card?

What's the point of a microsd card that can't be used?
Can't install to it. Apps can't read from it. Am I missing something or is this just a total waste?

One of the big selling points for me over the Galaxy 10.1 was the ability to buy a cheaper 16G Transformer and add 32G microsd. If the microsd truly doesn't work the way it's supposed to I'll have to return my 16G Transformer asap and order a 32G one.

Is it possible to rename the local/sdcard to anything else then rename the removable (real microsd card) "sdcard" to get it functioning right?

I also use my microsd for video and docs. Polaris Office allows saving to the micro SD

I use mine for game Rome, movies, docs,etc.

I am also banking on future software updates officially supporting the SD cards and I look at the LTFD as more future proof.

Btw, i was looking into an sd card soon for rooting. Does transformer handle 32gb cards? High density? (Or wharever its called)

my removable micro sd card work just fine. what's your doing or not doing for you?

I'm currently not using mine, but it's nice to know it's there. The main use for it is what the others said, for media storage. Think about it, with the Tab you have 16gb to store all your apps and media (if you don't use any cloud services); that's it. With the Transformer, or any tablet with a microsd slot, you can keep your media and apps separated.

Now, if you plan on installing more than ~13gb or so of apps (the actual available storage on a 16gb device, then you have another issue.

I have to ask, do you really have 16gig of apps??? I mean what do you have on there? Micro SD is for media and document storage both of which can take up a lot of space especially pdfs. Apps to SD shouldn't be needed and if you do, better ask yourself if you really ned ALL those apps.

Most people probably don't have 16gb in apps yet. The tablet specific apps are larger in size and there aren't *too* many out there yet. Some of the games like Dungeon Defenders are half a gig I think. A few of those and thats a large chunk your space.

I regularly use a tiny card reader I keep on my keys and always need to transfer things quickly as I don't always carry the cable with me. Also using the dock to transfer photos from my camera. I agree its not the most useful thing for everyone. But I do find that I use it more often than not for music photos and documents. Also I have like 4 random cards sitting around so gotta put those to use

good point that I definitely missed. However, as apps evolve in size, so too will storage space in order for the devices to remain viable. On the other hand, people have been dealing with devices like gameboy or psp for many years and that's one game at a time and a whole bunch of discs/cartridges you had to carry around, so who knows?

It seems that if Apple's vision of this whole cloud thing takes off we'll see them stop with expandable memory all together. Personally, I'm not willing to sign on to cloud tech yet, not until privacy and security issues are worked out better, so I'll hope that major manufacturers continue to keep expandable storage slots on their flagship devices.

I used it store media (pictures, songs and book). I prefer it this way since I already have a micro sd card reader on my pc and can easily transfer files from both both devices.

I cannot see my 8G MSD card after it is inserted using File Manager. Do I need to do anything like formating before my Transformer tab would recognize the card?

You're probably not looking deep enough.

local/sdcard is NOT your sdcard. I believe it's located at local/removable/microsdcard.

It should Just show up in the bottom right corner you may need to format it just retransfer the main stuff you want no system files let the transformer recreate all the thumbs

Seriously the most apps storage I have ever seen was on my buddies 10.1 tab that has 793MB of app data, and that includes over 140 apps with hi res games... I think you could possibly install every app in both markets, free, paid, and trial versions and not get to 16GB of data. I mean really?

Movies and music take up most of my storage, and between my phone and OG G-Tab I just need Google Music and about ten gigs worth of movies to keep me occupied. I don't believe this will change when I get a full size honeycomb tab this fall.

I have a cheapo 16g in my micro sd to store movies and other data. Would love to have gotten a 32g but they are just too pricey for me now.

Seriously you ask? That MicroSD card can store anything that's not apps (music, videos, ROMs etc.) When I bought this Eeepad, I bought a 16Gb MicroSD card specifically so I can load it up with music to play while screwing around with it. The keyboard dock has its own full-sized SD card slot, so I "borrowed" the 16Gb SD card from the Wii I never use (full of ROMs, after all, a Wii is no fun unless soft-modded ) so when I'm in the mood to play some emulated old school games, they're there. The internal 16GB in the tablet is still about 10GB free, and that's after sticking a bunch of apps in it.
