What's the scoop about the camera?

I am another one thinking about this unit, the other being the DNA.My biggest concern about the HD is the camera. Is there shutter lag? Is the picture quality good? Is the white balance true? Does the camera software allow changes in the camera settings? IE, exposure, flash settings, white balance, focus control and scene settings?

The normal snapshooter doesn't lag as far as I can tell, but HDR mode has lag (I believe HDR mode actually takes 3 pictures and combines them into one so that the darker parts and lighter parts both get the appropriate amount of exposure). For city night shots or shots that have shadows, HDR mode seems to usually take better pictures, so I use HDR mode like 75% of the time.

Basically, the quality varies a lot. It's possible to take nice-looking photos with it, but it's inconsistent and it's hard to know what you're going to get when you take the picture. I'll probably get better with it once I better understand its limitations.

I know the camera app lets you change the amount of exposure and the flash...I'm not sure about the others. The settings are:

Widescreen/Normal
Effects (that's black & white, sepia, etc)
Scenes (Auto/Portrait/Landscape/Night Portrait/Sunset) - I'm not sure what Night Portrait and Sunset do)
Modes (Single Shot, Panorama, Multi-Shot, Timer, HDR)
Exposure
Flash
