What's this!?!?! Froyo coming our way!

Don't expect it for us anytime soon. Samsung is not the one pushing it to our phones, Verizon will be.

one thing I noticed in the update was a GPS Fix. (also that the phone would record in mp4, which the fascinate already does apparently).

Anyhoo, hopefully the GPS Fix will live up to its name.

I'm scared for Froyo considering I have LP+ and WidgetLocker, and a bunch of paid apps. When my droid got 2.2 the update bricked my phone and I had to wipe it. I just pray the 2.2 update goes smoothly this time. I'm hoping all of the errors the first time was Motorola, not Android, and that the Samsung will be just fine.

I'm more concerned about losing root. I like the changes I've made do far and don't want to list those until someone figures out how to root the update.

Therein lies the issue. Anyone who thinks that Verizon is going to fast track this must be new here. We will be lucky to see this by christmas, they are too busy making money BOGOing the froyo-ready Incredible to care about the Fascinate.

Why worry about waiting for Verizon? The 2.2 source code was released already and now with updates rolling out in other countries some 2.2 roms are bound to be coming sooner rather than later. Although if you're not rooted I guess you'll have to wait for grandpa Verizon.

All I want from the update is the GPS fix. If I could just have that, and nothing else, I could patiently wait for the rest. For those of you who haven't experienced Froyo - aside from the ability to install apps to SD card - it's a little underwhelming.

I think we are waiting for the same parts for this update. A more responsive GPS is the highest on my list.. SD card storage for apps would be nice but is not major hang-up of mine.

Given they can roll out this update sooner than later I can get on with rooting and de-bing-bloat-verizon-ing, and enjoying my phone - more.

I require bluetooth fixes as well. Using the handsfree should not turn the phone completely back on from the screen-locked state, as well as hitting the button on the headpiece should not merely toggle off the headpiece's pairing... it should END THE CALL.

Hopefully froyo has some newer drivers or whatever for bluetooth, because handsfree is anything but handsfree at the moment.

Eagerly awaiting the entirety of 2.2, I will exchange rooted access now for a more functional device.

I hope 2.2 addresses the fact that you can't use headphones on phone calls. That's something I'd do on my Droid 2 when I was on campus or somewhere loud, and I hate that I can't do it on my Fascinate.

Really? My wife and I bought skullcandy headphones that have built in mics and we talk all the time over the head phones. The mic even has the button that let's you answer without having to touch the phone.

headphones work fine as long as they have the correct plug (TRRS not TRS)

I too have Skull Candy headphones.. might not have a built in mic though, and they don't work. But they worked on my other android phones just fine.

That's lame. Regular headphones worked just fine on my other phones. I'm not buying new headphones.

I use the headphones I got with the vibrant and the work fine on the fascinate. I use them at work all the time to take calls.

It's already been discussed on here a few times, but the current sw is designed to mute the phone's mic if it detects the headphone jack is in use. There are a few adapters that can be had for under $10 on amazon that include a mic and still allow you to continue using whatever standard headset you want.

Isn't there supposed to be a pretty significant speed increase from the JIT compiler?

i think that JIT helps the snapdragon chips more than any other chipset as far as drastic increases in quadrant performance goes.

for example, the droid x/2 didn't see nearly as large of a jump from 2.1 - 2.2 as the nexus one did.
