What's with the buttons on the bottom?

Panasonic's new device, the Toughpad, has 3 buttons on the bottom, similar to Samsung's home button, but divided into three, labeled A1, A2, and A3. I'm curious as to what they are for as the phone is pictured with the stock on screen buttons.

Pretty sure those are customer configurable function buttons for features such as bar code scanning, RFID etc. The industrial device makers often include these for purpose built devices.
