What's Your Default Messaging App? Lots of lag with Google's

I switched over to google messenger and it recently has been giving me issues as well. Shame because it is an amazing messaging app has everything I want in it. I went back to the stock app because my messages would all just sit at "sending" and then I would get "tap to resend." Seems like at times it has a difficult time handling group messages too

Yup it does the same thing here as well... I have to always go back and double check to make sure it actually went through. I really wish it worked well, it's the cleanest and easiest to use I've seen so far.

Textra seems to be the most popular. I'm about to give it a shot.

I personally don't like tetra's pop up reply box it takes up the entire screen and is ugly. Google messengers quick reply is so nice

So I really dislike the stock Samsung messaging app so I downloaded Google's generic bare bones messaging app, the issue with that is, at times it really bogs down and nearly locks up the phone from all the lag in some cases. It will always lag and nearly lock up the phone if say i'm browsing on Chrome and a text comes in, the phone will stutter for a few seconds and it's not fun at all when it's a group message going and i'm getting multiple texts.

I know this isn't just how it's supposed to be, none of my previous phones did this. Anyone have any suggestions on the best messaging app? Or could the issue be something else? The rest of the phone works flawless, I can multitask to my hearts content without a single hiccup.

I love Google Messenger. Works flawlessly and it has a beautiful layout with plenty of customization. Tried Textra. Really wanted to love it but I fount it flawed. Uninstalled.

You can disable that pop up and download another from the play store.

I do have Textra pro (from buying ChompSMS long ago) -- I think I may give them a try again. It has been a long time since I have switched from Google Messenger.

Try Signal.

+1 for Signal. The UI is very similar to the google messenger app, has a dark theme option, and has encryption built in.

I use stock but only because I like the fact you can schedule when to send a message

Gah you people making me try Textra again ... It is installed and setup. Going to fix it a go over the weekend .

My old default was GoSMS. Had to switch since to get it to work with T-Mobile, it required to turn off WiFi to download MMSs. Then went to stock Samsung. Liked it til they got rid of the ability to turn on/off group messaging on each text. Now im on Google's messenger. No issues so far.

Okay .. One thing I already do not like about Textra. It wakes the screen up when getting a message whereas Google Messenger stays off.
