What's Your Screen Resolution Setting? Why?

Call me slow but I don't know if I can tell the difference between the resolutions. I guess I don't understand or whatever. It been on FDH+ since I've gotten the phone. Just switched it to the WQHD+ and can't tell the difference. Can someone explain to me the difference?

I noticed a difference when I engaged Entertainment mode. Give it a try and see what you think. 😊

I can't see the difference either...

I run WQHD+, auto-brightness (which is generally around 40%), location high accuracy, and bluetooth on. Yesterday with 20% I had 7 hours screen on time.

I was on wifi most of that time but I played about an hour or so of games, watched a few HDR videos on youtube and alot of web browsing/news reading.

I see no reason to turn the display down or turn off the important features with this phone. Not only is battery life great, it charges fast enough not to care.

I agree with you. I want to fully enjoy this great phone in all its glory. There is no phone out there that has a display as good as this one. Why pay for this and strip it of any of its beauty.

For those who can't see the difference between the highest screen resolution and the lower settings, it is understandable, because with a small screen, the pixels are smaller and the space between them are also, smaller making it difficult to see them. However, where you should see a difference with the N8's highest resolution is with the clarity of smaller print, particularly if the font is less bold or light. The edges of the tiny letters become more defined or less fuzzy or jagged, when you up the resolution. With images, their edges or outlines also become more defined, resulting in them standing out better from their background. They take on more depth, almost a third dimension.

(When I had my display set in FDH+ mode, I had to up the contrast to as easily read the same small letters, but this was at the expense of bolder headings and smaller letters underneath becoming too similar in boldness to be able to easily distinguish.)

I use the stock FHD+ and even lowered it to HD. For some reason I like the stock setting just fine.
I manage over 5 hours SOT with 25% left in the tank and about 3 ours of BT streaming.
Not bad at all.

You have pics for evidence? 7 OST and still have 20%?

Theme doesn't change size in SwiftKey. It's a known issue in SwiftKey. Also I can't tell the difference otherwise in WQHD

I use the default auto brightness and WQHD+ or whatever with high accuracy and some Bluetooth usage and general go to bed with 4 hours screen on time and 40% left.

I even went out Saturday to a college for a festival and had extremely spotty service and still ended up with 70% battery left after about 10 hours of no to barely any service and pics.

Not from Sunday no.

It happens quite often so next time it does I'll grab a pic. It's normally on a weekend, during the week my phone gets plugged in too much for Android auto.

I also get great SOT, without dumbing down my phone except for keeping Bluetooth turned off when I'm not using it, still enjoying the highest screen resolution and location settings.

The only thing I am careful about is screen brightness. I have it set on auto adjust, but occasionally will turn it down manually if needed. Fortunately, I work at home and not in a brightly lit office where more brightness is needed.

My guess is that, if you aren't getting anywhere close to this kind of screen time, it possibly is because of your greater brightness needs.

Last night before going to bed, I had 5 hrs 20 minutes of SOT with 38 percent left. If I had run my phone down to 20 percent with the screen on, yesterday, I probably also would have gotten close to 7 hrs SOT.

Just to give an idea of what I see daily. I'm about to leave the office which will cause me to plug into Android auto. I've been off the charger since 7:30 this morning.
