I am facing an issue with whatsapp on my N5 with 4.4.3. I installed it initially and was working fine. But, after few messages it stopped sending or receiving messages. It is showing message- /unble to connect to internet'. I changed from dalvik to ART but still the problem persisted. Now i am back on dalvik and still no whatsapp. I have uninstalled and installed a number of times but it was of no use. Please help me with this problem

Works fine for me.

Don't forget, WhatsApp requires a working data connection; it cannot send messages over a cellular connection the way SMS does. You need either a Wi-Fi connection of a 4G/HSPA/Edge cellular data connection for it to work.

Yes i am having a working internet connection still it is not sending that verification code at the initial installation. Now i have also received a 4.4.4 update but still the problem is there.

Yes. And 4.4.3 and before that 4.3.x and 4.4.x.

Perhaps you should try uninstalling and reinstalling WhatsApp.

Are you running a sim card with an adapter? And what kind of data signal are you getting? I don't think it'll run on wifi alone you need a network connection. If your network connection is weak and u can't send or receive texts that may be the problem.

And for those who say it runs on data alone then why does it disconnect when you remove your sim card and needs to verify via sms?

Because it verifies your phone number and will only work if your number is registered; hence it won't work without a SIM card (for a GSM phone). See https://www.whatsapp.com/faq/en/android/20970873

Also see https://www.whatsapp.com/faq/en/general/21069306 - "The most common reason why you cannot send or receive WhatsApp messages is a bad internet connection."

I have a working data connection and a good signal. I surf web, download stuff and everything, but whatsapp is not running. I have even done a factory reset still not running. just dont know what is the problem.

Also,

Settings -> Wi-Fi: turn it off.
Settings -> Data usage: turn off Mobile data

Now, try to send a WhatsApp message. Instead of one checkmark (means the message was received by WhatsApp servers) or two checkmarks (means the message was delivered to the recipient) you will see a small clock (which, apparently, means waiting for a connection).

Re-enable Wi-Fi and/or Mobile data and, within moments, your "waiting" message will be sent.
