It seems that WhatsApp is not compatible with the Nexus 7, although there appears are some rather complicated ways of installing it . Does anybody have a simple (idiot proof) way of installation / is there an N7 version?

you can try sideloading. do a search on that term - plenty of instructions here and there and it's not especially complicated.

any app that mostly uses phone type connections is not going to work on the N7 wifi because it ISN'T a phone. Perhaps the 3G version is a better fit but if the app can deal with the peculiarities of the N7's WiFi capabilities then it might work....or NOT and therefore sideloading may work.

I haven't tried side-loading on a Nexus 7, but I did recently try with an Acer a110 tablet. While I was able to side-load it on without issue, it refused to run, instead I got an in-app message saying my device wasn't supported. It would seem Whatsapp is deliberately trying to prohibit tablet users from running their app.

Thanks, it's just that my daughter is off travelling & uses WhatsApp, I think I'll leave well alone + try and persuade her to use Skype.

Can't see why WhatsApp wouldn't want tablet users to use this?
