Android Central Question

I’ve always had an iPhone where you can see who the message was from but not the content of the message eg “John Smith - message” can I do this on Samsung? I have a galaxy note 9.

The notification should show the sender name and you can view the notification without opening the message.
You can then swipe away the notification without opening the message.

I think only 20% of the folks that start an anonymous thread ever return and only half of those register.

How can one even have the permission to start a thread, without registering?

This is the subject of regular debate among the Ambassador/Moderator crew as well as the site administrators. Our goal is to be helpful and welcoming, and to encourage more people to register on the forums so that they can engage more meaningfully. Allowing people to post questions without registering has been a mainstay of that strategy for a while, and through the efforts of badged members like mustang7757 and many others, we've managed to increase the rate of registration. I understand the frustration, but I prefer to focus on the times when people do register, come back to a thread, and we have a productive discussion!:)

That's how I ended up joining. I posted a question and was invited to join. Didn't think I would ever come back unless I had an issue but here I am on here several times a day reading questions and replies. LOL

This is the best forum I participate in. No abusive language. No put downs. Just people who love tech and want to learn from each other.

This is why I loved my Note Edge and the OS that was on it. You had the ability to block the preview of the message but see who it was from or see the preview and the sender.

I know this because when I finally upgraded to the ill-fated N7, that phone no longer gave you the option to show the name but block the text. It was either show the name and preview of the text or an icon only from the lock screen. I preferred block the preview but show the name.

I have the sneaky suspicion that that particular option was disabled between the N5-N7. I still can't replicate it on my N9.
