When is a mute not a mute?

Ok, so try this one on.

I leave my Bolt on 24/7. At night I just mute it to surpress notifications, etc. So this morning I hear a text message ding. WTF? I get up and look and no, I didn't forget to mute the phone ... the sound just came through anyway.

Now how is that possible? My wife tells me more than just that one came in, too.

Thanks Capt, but I expressly DON'T want it set that way. And still, both ringer and notification sliders were down to 0 when this happened. There is no explanation for this unless there's a known pre- or post OTA bug.

You said MUTE.

Are you SILENCING your phone or going into your sound and turning things down?

Have your wife or whoever send you test text messages and see what is setting the phone off.

If your phone is truly in SILENCE, you'll see a musical note with a slash through it.

If nothing else, try a reboot and go at it again.

Ok, let me say it differently.

Every night I turn the volume down until the little window that pops up shows a speaker with an "X" in front of it. Doing that brings both the phone ringer volume and the notification volume down to 0. In THAT state (call it muted, call it silenced, call it bisque if ya like) I have never heard a text message notification sound. Not on the Bolt nor the Eris before it.

Almost forgot - yes, there's a little musical note with a line through it in the notification bar when set as above.

FWIW, the Quick Settings apps calls that "silent".

Reboot. Set it to bisque. Look for speaker. Have wife send you a text. See what happens. If it happens again...

Destroy it.
