Public WIFI Login

When I connect to a public WIFI with my TAB S2, it does not take me directly to the public WIFI supplier login page. Therefore, I get connected but I cannot use the internet. I also have a ASUS ZenPhone 2 (Android 5.0.2) that does not give me that problem. With the ZenPhone, as soon as I click on the public WIFI and get the connection, I am automatically transferred to their login page. Does anyone know why this happens. I am on Android 5.1.1 on the TAB S2.

Re: Public WIFI Login

There should be a pop up prompting you to log in to the WiFi, though. On my S1 and other Samsung devices it doesn't open it up automatically, but I do get a notification saying that I need to input my credentials to use the WiFi.

In any case, opening any browser tab and trying to log into a webpage should take you to the WiFi's portal to input your login information.

Re: Public WIFI Login

I feel your pain. The WiFi in my S2 is flat-out awful compared to my Tab 4. I don't know if they went with crap components in the S2, or if Lollipop is a crap OS, but my Tab 4 with KitKat runs circles around my S2 with Lollipop. I can have both tablets side by side at work and, connected to the same network, the Tab 4 will have 4 out of 4 bars for a strength and the S2 will bounce back and forth between 2 and 3. And to think, I got the S2 as an UPGRADE. What a joke that turned out to be. More times than not, unless I'm getting full bars I have no internet. It's either all or nothing. Even when I'm home and within 20 feet of my router, neither my Classical Music nor my SomaFM work for more than 10 minutes. If they ever get around to releasing Marshmallow in the US, and it doesn't fix the problem, I'll probably put it up on Craigslist... and NOT get another Samsung tablet.

I don't remember getting a notification on my TAB S2 (I got one on my ZenFone) and when I tried the browser, it told me there was no Internet connection. I will pay more attention next time and see what happens. Thanks for your help.

Re: Public WIFI Login

On my S2 I do momentarily get the notification alert that I need to login to access Wi-Fi but that notification alert is never actually selectable when I swipe down notifications. This is the only device that I've ever had that issue with. What works for me is when I open the browser I try to go to some website that I know I have not gone to ever or in a long time so that it does not have any content in my cache. By going to a brand new website, that usually triggers any sort of sign in dialog box that the Wi-Fi access point has.

Exactly the same thing happens to me: there is a notification on the top left corner about signing in but it disappears a few seconds later. Good suggestion about trying a web site I havenèt used for a long time. Thanks for very good suggestions so far.

Re: Public WIFI Login

Just logged in to a public wifi network. I still did not get the notification but when I tried to go on a web page I had not used for a while, it transferred me to the signin page of the public wifi site. Thanks again for the suggestion SpookDroid.

I have found when this happens, I will simply open up another browser. When I do this, 99% of the time, I will get that public WiFi location's sign-in page. For whatever reason, Chrome doesn't always work for that so I will open Samsung's browser and get the appropriate sign-in page.
