WTF.. so my stock, non-rooted M8, just errored out on update.

EDIT: I'm re-downloading it.. crossing fingers.

EDIT 2: Re-downloaded the whole 1GB file again and got the same error again..

EDIT 3: So I realized I only had a few gigs of space left which may be causing this(You'd think there would be a popup about space).. cleared out about 4GB of stuff and am re-downloading for a 3rd time.

EDIT 4: Downloaded a 4th time, same error as before. I'm going to link this post to Mo Versi.

Bring it to a Device Support Center (ask at your local store if you don't know where the nearest one is) and ask them to please flash the update. (The update won't delete any data - flashing the whole ROM of the same level will.)

Unless the phone is rooted - it won't update if it is - the failure is around 25%-30%.

Finally got this fixed. AT&T said so many people tried to download the update at the same time this morning it caused errors. So far the new OS is running like a champ!

Your error was the exact same message as mine? I've now downloaded this a 5th time and got the error again.

I tried to download the update but the downlaod was stop and not do a thing. It would get to 17% and stop. It would get to 35% and stop. I left it running over night and it got to 93% and now I am at work without WiFi.

Mine did that also. It would download for awhile and then stop for 5-10 minutes. Took almost 4 hrs. to completely download but finally did. Installed it last night and everything is running fine so far today. I cleared the cache partition this morning and I am thinking about factory resetting later today. Gonna wait and see how everything runs for awhile before I do that though.

I to had about 10 gb of space free. I moved some stuff to my SD card and freed up an additional 6 gb. With 16 gb free, I was able to finally update. Other users reported that this worked for them also with needing about 13 gb or more free to update.

My problem now is that I've wiped my device and it keeps telling me my software is up to date. I've cleared the HtcDm app a dozen times, and even cleared Google Services Framework(old thing you used to do to try and get it to reset) didnt work.

I'm guessing me wiping my device put me to the back of the line or something so it wont be offered to me until later now..

GLIMMERMAN76 over on that AT&T thread says

"well looking at reports it will take 16 gb of free space to install."

So basically you need to clear nearly your entire device to accept the update. Sweet....

Now I am on my third attempt to download and install the update. The download stops for long periods or time, then starts again. Wtf. When it finished, it says something went wrong.

After all weekend of "no updates available", tried this morning and it's updating again.

EDIT: Finally got Marshmallow installed.. not sure if they fixed the OTA or if me wiping my device and having plenty of space is what allowed to be installed.

Ouch. AT&T should have put a better intern as the project lead.
I haven't tried running the update yet, so I'll post my results later (whatever they may be).

After growing thoroughly tired of playing "will they or won't they" with AT&T's Marshmallow OTA, I flashed the RUU myself and have soldiered on getting it configured for my wife to use. I'd forgotten how snappy the M8 can be. It should serve her well.

Edit: I have to say, though, that between fighting to get the RUU flashed and forcing adoptable storage to work properly, I've spent more time typing console commands over the past two days than I have in years.
