In the Photos app, when I select Albums, there are many images present. I have several questions:

* Where are these images stored? They do not seem to be present in File Finder app I use.

* Are they taking up any local storage?

* Can they be removed just from the device?

Thank you for your help...

No albums aren't taking any extra storage. It's just a view (metadata) for the group of photos you put in the album.

All your photos in the Google photos app are in the cloud if you choose to back up. If you want to delete the device copy you can go to photos app settings and select free up local storage.

Welcome to Android Central! To add to bhatech's good explanation, if you want to remove a single photo from the device but keep it in the cloud, just select the photo, tap the menu button at the upper right, and tap Delete Device Copy.
