Where are wallpapers stored after they're set?

My wife set a wallpaper using an app from the Market. Once that image is set as the wallpaper, is it moved to a certain directory, or does the system just reference it in the directory of the wallpaper app she used?

I managed to unset it for her so I'm hoping it's still on her phone somewhere.

i don't know which phone your wife is using but i know on the droid it is stored in a folder on the root of the sd card. if she downloads a file manager app like astro, you can go into the sd card and go to that folder and see it. usually when you go into the select wallpaper function and then go into the gallery, there will be a folder inside with the name of the app and it will have all of the downloaded wallpapers inside
