Where did the 16GB of internal memory go?

Brand new it listed internal memory as about 10.7 GB. It seems kinda low. I realize that after formatting the disk size is going to be smaller in size. The OS and preinstalled crapware can't take up so much space, can it?


The 16GB MicroSD card formatted to about 14.9, even that seems kinda low.

There's also 2.5 gb dedicated to app space.

The Micro SD is perfect. The explanation on that is the data measuring standard on products is measured where 1GB = 1000MB = 1000000KB = 1000000000B
Computers work with the binary standard so 1GB = 1024MB = 1024*1024KB = 1024*1024*1024B where 2^10 = 1024
So every time you buy any sort of memory storage, the system you connect it to will say you are short some space. Some people are trying to switch the standard that the PC measures to KiB, MiB, and GiB, but it isn't getting too popular quite yet.

Personally I think the solution is simply to have hard drive companies use the same standard as electronic systems instead of metric, but I don't think they will do that.

good to know that its 2.5G dedicated for apps. I kept reading on forums and post from this site that 1G was dedicated for apps which is a Joke.. not sure on why phones will restrict the internal storage..
