since all of the statistics are showing that the number of android user's are rapidly increasing and so are the number of members here, where are these new user's coming from? are they from different smart phones (lowering other companies market share) or new users coming from feature phones/regular phones.

for one, i came from a Storm which im sure a lot of you are too haha. that thing was a piece of junk. i liked it for the first month and then regretted it afterwards but that was verizon's only decent touch screen at the time. this is all based on my personal opinion and by no way am i saying that the storm was junk for everybody.

either way, im just curious to see where you guys think android user's are coming from and if other cellphone manufacturers are losing their share while our consistently increases.

One set of statistics I've seen with the most well-organized data (so many confuse market share with monthly sales...) showed a net loss from all other OSes (BBOS, iPhone OS (sorry, can't call is IOS since that's a Cisco name), WinMo, and PalmOS) but explained that each OS had a net gain in customers over the time period. This implies that while there is movement from other OSes to Android (and vice versa) much of the growth is in the smartphone market in general - so new customers, second phones, and upgrades from feature phones.

Because Michael Jackson loved Android... duh... If it's good enough for MJ, it's good enough for me...

What? Too soon?

Ok, to answer the question, I think a huge chunk of Android's growth is simply because of the constantly increasing spread that Android devices have across all major carriers. On top of that, the amazing marketing behind it is helping. I can guarantee you that many people who own Android devices don't even realize what they're using (let's remember, us techies are the minority in the world of consumers). Many people will get the MyTouch slide simply because of "the genius button" or many will get the Droid because of the amazing advertising. The selection of devices available that run Android are dominating the market. And I love it.

Well I came from the Crackberry world of smart phones because I was over the hardware issues I have had with the devices I did have from RIM.. Especially if I spend close to $ 600 and none of the newer models were not of interest to me, I expect my phone to last 2 years at least. Sadly my Bold 9000 ended up frustrating me to the point that I had to smack the phone to get it off standby or do a battery pull. If I did not put it in to standby my battery would last only 4 - 5 hours in Standby I would get almost 2 days out of it but I charged every night and while at work. So I started looking at different Android devices because of the Nexus one and the desire, however, I decided no more spending over 300 for a cell phone for myself and I heard about the Captivate being launched on at&t and decided to check it out. Loved it and picked it up for $ 199 and I am not looking back. The BB Torch looks cool but still my Captivate seems to be the logical choice as well as I cannot wait until Froyo which will be even better.

Cheers,
Charlie

looks like i wasn't the only blackberry convert.......

far from it, i too had a blackberry as a work phone, i hated it so much, i used it as paper weight for months and only used it for calls. i used my personal phone (palm pre) to browse websites and check emails.

Then i got an HTC Evo for my work phone and now i do everything on this phone lmao.....

idk how anyone can still use a blackberry, their OS sucks, the excuse i always here is, oh well it's a better business phone for emails... but i don't get it, emails look way better on both my pre and evo and i don't have to squint to read them either.

I was a Winmo defector. I lost the faith when I saw the screen shots for Winmo7. It looks like a High School Toy. I don't want to "socialize" or make my phone into a fashion statement. I want it to work as a tool. The Android does that in spades.

Don’t get me wrong, I have seen very fashionable Androids out there. It's great that an OS can be so flexible that it can be business in the front and party in the back! ;)

I never owned a blackberry device. I have actually turned down several from various jobs. I have used them enough from their very early pre-phone days through this afternoon to know that they are not for me.
