Where Samsung Pay didn't work for you.

Ran into a problem. Got declined at Lime Mexican Grill but I couldn't find the sweet spot. Went somewhere else and it worked. Other than that, no problems.

How many times u try it? Also I am beginning to believe the sweet spot is more so how fast it reads I do not think it determines an error or decline. But I may be wrong. Bc if u get it to beep and go through process then it's the system not reading it correctly

This was interesting. I just tried to use one of my Citi Mastercards at Giant Food in Maryland, where I've been using it with no problem since October. The register connected to Samsung Pay, but the cashier got the message that the card was declined and I should check with the issuer.

So I came home and called Citibank. There's no problem with my card -- no security hold, nothing overdue, low balance -- so they did some research. According to them the store and Mastercard both declined the transaction. They urged me to try it again at another store to buy something for a few dollars and see if it goes through. They said they have no idea why Mastercard and Giant declined.

I'll update after I try it at another store.
I had the same problem with my Citibank card. Never had issues until update with new signature component.
All of a sudden every transaction declined.

I called Citibank and they had no answer, they didn't even see a declined transaction.

The fix for me was simply removing and re-adding the card in Samsung Pay.

Now, no problems.

I used at Nautica store and I don't know if I froze the one specific terminal or their system just messed up. It froze after I signed for the purchase. But it posted on my account and also had approval chose on their end. The other terminals were not affected.

Mine worked again on a smaller purchase about an hour later. I'm going to try it again at the grocery store tomorrow, so we'll see what happens.

Had a funny one today: I went into Jimmy Johns, a sandwich chain. Their Internet provider, Comcast, was down, so they couldn't take credit cards. I joked with the cashier that I was disappointed, because I wanted to use Samsung Pay.

Turns out that she just got a Note 5, and she's a huge Samsung Pay fan. She felt so bad that I couldn't use it, she gave me my lunch for free.

I never got to use Samsung Pay. Stupid KNOX got tripped during my rooting experiments. Oh well.

Stupid KNOX.

Didn't samsung say that if you root your phone samsung pay will not work...

Headless' ATMs

Some of the new technologies will require only a software update to the ATM, while others will need new hardware.

ATM manufacturer Diebold is testing a "headless" teller machine, without a screen or keypad, which dispenses cash from interaction on the smartphone.

"What we are saying with this is forget the card reader, forget the PIN pad, we all have these devices in our pockets," said Dave Kuchenski, Diebold's senior business development manager for new technology.

Customers need only verify their identity, which can be done with the device's fingerprint reader, or possibly with an iris scanner on the ATM.

While some existing Diebold ATMs can work with mobile applications, Kuchenski said the new concept, in testing with Citibank and others, could provide "a better user experience."

"We don't have to walk through the same process which we have had since the ATM has existed," he said.

"If we're using a mobile phone, we no longer have the need for a card, we no longer have a need for a receipt printer, we've dematerialized a lot of the devices. Banks like this, because it has fewer moving parts, so it reduces the total cost of ownership."

After months of working just fine at Walmart I'm now getting consistent read errors. Their equipment is the same as it has been. Makes me wonder if they purposefully pushed an update to stop SPay because it errors out on the first beep and won't take any more reads.

Annoying because it's now the second place that I can't use it and for little trips I'll probably avoid going there.

I also wonder if they are really trying to isolate any mobile payment except for theirs. WALMART that is.

I like the idea you bring up so that consumers will be "forced" to use their app but I think that won't happen.

Mine still works at Walmart just like it always has. Maybe they haven't updated their system yet.

I'm back to batting 1.000 at Walmart since I signed my BofA card within Samsung Pay (3 successes out of 3 tries). That's all I did, but certainly something could have changed in the payment processing at Walmart or at BofA. In any case, I'm happy to be "walletless in Walmart" again.

On the downside, I had a failure at a Golden Corral restaurant over the weekend. The terminal never seemed to register that Samsung Pay was transmitting CC data. I tried three times and got the same non-response. The cashier was really cool about it and patient and seemed to really want to see it work.
