The only reason ppl want to use wearable plan is because it is cheaper, especially for those pay their own devices, e.g. has no family to form a family plan, not because it requires to. For example for a normal smartphone line, it is typically $30+/month. So, T-Mo's wearable plan is $15/mo, much cheaper than smartphone plan.
Even with the family plan, my smartphones are $15/mo vs $10/mo device/wearable plan. Carriers offer wearable plan as an incentive, not a requirement. They would love you to pay a full smartphone plan instead.
Now with the full standalone capability of future AW, I'd wonder if carriers will even continue to offer the wearable plan discount at all.
