Which messaging app is better

the stock messages app is the only one which can block contacts, afaik, making all the rest pretty useless to me.

it is also packed with features and customisation options so i don't feel the need to look elsewhere even if it weren't for that single advantage.

I am using the Verizon messaging app. I like it. It's sends fast, no issues.

Used Handcent for the longest time and really liked it... But I switched over to EvolveSMS.... It has been far the best I have used over the years.... Very unique and very customizable. On top of that, the large volume of Themes designed for it are incredible.

Handcent. I like to use a long notification sound (song) so that I hear it but I like being able to turn the sound off quickly from the lock screen and handcent does that.

Hangouts all the way, was using chomp but stopped and came back to hangouts

I like the he Verizon messenger app. The main reason is because using that you can get text messages on our computer and tablet ND they'll all be in sync. I find that to be very handy.

I feel the same way. I use the Verizon messaging app for that reason. If it is installed on the phone you can still use the stock app and all should sync.

I've been using the stock texting, but curious about hangouts. I have friends and family all over the word. Would Hangouts be a good way to chat without worrying about fees? I have been using Whatsapp, but in South America people change their phone numbers more frequently, and of course that messes everything up. A new sim card with a new number is about $2, and you can buy them on the street with no identification.
