Yes, I saw a response from the staff at AA forum. The phone mic is used, not cars.

Really? I thought it would use the car mic. I haven't looked into this, but that would seem like the logical way.

I'd bet it depends on what you are doing. For example, if you use Ok Google to start the voice commands, it probably will be using phone mic. If you click voice command button on car, it probably will use car mic. The difference here is that AA can't rely on car mic to detect hot words.

Which microphone + assistant has difficulty responding in text mails

LG G6 O/S 7.0 2018 Murano with Android Auto and Apple Car Play

AA works pretty well overall, but having difficulty with Assistant recognizing phone numbers or the command to 'send.' It usually cancels the text. Other Assistant recognition functions seem to work ok, like NAV, Music etc. Have lowered radio volume to low so as not to interfere, but to no avail. Picking up the phone and speaking directly into phohe mic makes no difference. Assistant works excellent when phone disconnected from AA. Did try car mics too, but nothing there either.

Did recently read that Google is prepping AA for 'bluetooth' in the near future. Hopefully things will be better.

Do you mean WiFi? My understanding is that AA currently runs hybrid over USB and Bluetooth. Music and phone calls user Bluetooth, and all projections including navigation use USB. That was my understanding anyway. And apparently they're working on some AA hardware that would work over WiFi, with no need for the cord.

You may be right about WIFI instead of Bluetooth. I couldn't find the original article that I read.
