Which phone are you upgrading to (if you are)?

Considering at that point they would have left people grandfathered for 2 years (just as if you had a contract), I don't think people should really complain. They are prepaid and could have not even bothered, giving you the same benefits as a contract is pretty darn nice.

Sprint charged $10 extra for 4G to me here a yr and change ago and it was crap then in rural Ohio. Many who paid for it had no 4G at all!!
The $10 bump in the minimum plans that Boost and Virgin have tells me they still do.. I'm done with VM and Boost as a rural user..

The deeper I look the more I dislike um (Sprint) as a rural user.. Someone else can pay their bills after my OV dies on the $25 plan cuz I know when I'm being screwed!! Them rich city folk can pay for their own dam 4G!! LOL!! There LeslieAnn I complained.. However I agree with everything you say on that if I live under a STRONG Wimax coverage area.. And of course it depends on where you live!!

So the question to me with Boost and Virgin is,,, Are you a city slicker with that fancy Wimax 4G giddyup fur ur no contract device that just keeps a goin and a goin you lucky Whippersnapper??

Ooor are you a S.O.L Hillbilly with a 4G play phone paying for others Metropolitan new improved 4G build out of a network you can't use??
To add insult to injury the network your on and paying for but costs them nothing (Wimax) is very weak in your area (tease) and won't be added to ever?? /rant]

Me I'm moving on as I have bought this snake oil before dang it .. :)
Many kids imo could care less about that and they just want to impress someone /w phone tricks so Sprint and it's underlings will be fine without me as that's who's being targeted with this 4G Play Phone offering anyways..

Maybe a move to the city?? Naaa not going to happen ;) Maybe a contract phone?? Good lord can you say Verizon plz don't rape me?? What's a country boy to do now lol?? Saw this soup commercial and if I could get the tin can to look cool enough with a little string and BAM!! Cheaper phone lol.. I'm going to see if anyone (carriers) has real 4G coming here soon on prepaid at any price but I'm guessing that's going to be disappointing..

They are just putting everybody else on the now normal plans. 35 bucks is still amazing. I won't have any 4g but those specs look tasty lol.

Agreed I'll probably end up folding up like a cheap lawn chair and go there too lol.. To be honest there is no other alternative today with that kind of power in prepaid 3G / 4G non withstanding as far as I know?? Thx!! Just hoping for a speed fix here as 3G here is a joke too.. Wander off the path and your done..

But it still works as a great in car paperweight and heater as the OV goes nuclear when it can't get a signal and N.E. Ohio has very poor coverage under Sprint 3G and 4G Wimax... I'm really not wanting to pay $300 for that thanks.. I'd feel like the nationwide commercial guy with my warm play phone / heated paperweight combo device Nice!! LOL.. But that's probably my near future if the OV fails.. May go with Boost but I doubt it as it is just to much of a hassle to switch over for less phone..

I'm getting the 3D as early as a store will possibly sell it. My problem is I'm on the $25 plan and the cycle starts over on the 20th of this month, do I just get my plan changed to $35 before then or refill to $25 and see if they don't charge the extra $10 until the next billing cycle? Don't want to pay $25 then get hit with $35 on the 31st.

Yep.. I'm keeping the OV and starting a new account for the EVO I think just so I don't have to think about that as I can afford to but that was not making me happy either.. If your buying it at bestbuy / wallyworld etc.. I suspect the EVO V 4G will not be in my walmart here in Hoboganassville OH for many weeks after the original release in a couple of weeks from now online.. So it may not be a issue at all timing wise for some, but these guys (Pre-paid) love taking those unused minute dollars as the non refundable minutes policy they have proves....

Unfortunately, I can't answer that.
I believe, that what will happens is everything will work like normal, but the bill you get AFTER the 27th will be at $35. Some are saying change over just before your plan is due just in case.

If I hear anything I will post it, and I plan on finding out before I activate mine.

So one opinion I'm looking for....

I'm about 80% sure I'm going to go with the Evo V. I like Virgin Mobile and it looks like a really good phone. But I'm just so intrigued by the Galaxy Nexus. It just looks so darn good. The only issue with the Galaxy Nexus is that it doesn't look like there are any prepaid carriers that have 4G in my area other than VM. Is 4G THAT big of a deal? I would say I use WIFI about 75% of the time anyway.

Part of me wants to get the unlocked Galaxy Nexus and then just go with a company like Airfire. Tough decision, I feel like I may be settling for a lesser phone (HTC Evo V) because I am comfortable in VM, I know that there will be a good development community, and 4G.

I guess my question is, which would you rather have if you were in my position?

For better phone or if I wanted a stock Android, I'd stick with the nexus. If you prefer to save money. I'd go for EVO V 4G

yeah, the money isn't really an issue. I just sold a guitar for $400. I think I'm more nervous about getting the Nexus, but missing VM and hating the new carrier.

I really like the hardware in the Evo V 4G, but I just checked WiMax coverage on Clear (another prepaid on Sprint wimax) and I live just outside the coverage area. Really don't want to pay $35 a month if I'm getting the same speeds, so I'll probably just wait for Triumph to drop in price and keep $25 month plan.

Not after the 20th of this month you won't as that's the cutoff on $25 upgrades.. It's $35 everything after that on new or old accounts so HURRY!! Thought about that however the triunph is a hardware fail (charging port and that battery omg)..
Imo from the reviews I've seen I don't need that at $279 or any other price nor does anyone else now the Evo twins are on the scene..

I'm passing on it and if you meant that and your just keeping your phone and $25 plan now till 4G arrives later then join the club.. But they got you cornered on waiting on 4G and saving $10 per month with a new handset sorry (somebody has to pay for the new 4G lol!!)..

For near the same money partner I would wait and get the Evo V or Boost's Design on a special personally and pay the $35 or what ever plan you get costs per month as it's the deep end of the prepaid pool for now on handsets even without 4G in my area and I like diving :)..

Yeah it's unfair and cruel to those of us who don't get 4G now but that's capitalism and it works if you let it be.. I mean it's 10 stinkin bucks a month to step up to a lot more phone and even I'm not that cheap..

Do not pick a carrier based on 4g, it's simply not there yet, and the radios chew up battery.
Second, the Nexus... is nice, but no sdcard slot, not enough memory, too bad. Also, it's quite large for the screen size. While there are lots of devs for it, and lots of roms, it's a lot of stock android, over and over again.

It can be a bit boring.

For better phone or if I wanted a stock Android, I'd stick with the nexus. If you prefer to save money. I'd go for EVO V 4G
You can get stock on the Evo V, but stock is boring.
How about having stock android, Sense, Miui, CM7, CM9, and who knows what else.

As for the better phone, it depends on your definition of better. I picked the Evo 4G over the Nexus for good reason. Upgrading an SDcard is cheap, upgrading internal memory is not. Not to mention for the physical size, the Evo has a larger screen (less bezel).

The 20th is irrelevant.
Any phone newer than the Chaser will kill your grandfathered plan. You can put an Elite on your account, and it will show $25, but come the 27th, your next bill will be $35.

Doesn't matter if you buy it today, or next month.

Thanks Leslie, that's really good advice. I think what the dealbreaker for me is as well is that I just don't see any other prepaid carriers worth leaving. T-Mobile isn't available in my city and that's the only other carrier I'd consider.

Good to know regarding the development on the G-Nex as well. I am a sucker for flashing new ROM's and I could see myself getting bored if everything is a variation of stock.

Thanks again, I think I'll be joining you at the Evo V sub forum soon. :)

So who preordered all the Elites? Seems like I'm the only one here interested in it. I'd really like to see one in person first since I have some reservations about the lower ppi of the larger screen at the same resolution as the OV.

I'm not a fan of the One V's non-removable battery (and the "chin" does nothing for me either). The EVO is nice, but looks like it will be out of my price range, and Wimax/4G does nothing for me where I live.

I agree if your talking about just saving money on 4G handset and you don't get it in your area and the Elite looks like a nice and practical handset for 3G and I use to be but not any more.. The eye's need a bigger screen and 4.3 inch screen the Evo has over the Elite's 3.5 inch screen is big imo..

If the compactness of the Elite is of no benefit and it's not now I don't work anymore why go there?? I go to the Evo V because the Trimuph is just not worth it to me being 3G only and having it's power issues.. The battery and sd card thing on the 1V Yikes!! Just can't go there..

With the Evo V to me,, I hate the 3D thing!! I will try hard to make that go away with a cover or something and never plan to use it EVER.. I get it for the ram and power of a 1.2 GHz processor plus the bigger screen and also so maybe one day I will drive thru a 4G area and be able to use it.. Not to mention the cool stuff your can do to it with all you learn in here..

Not going to happen with the Elite.. The Elite is a 3G/4G gap filler till you get 4G coverage and a fine replacement for the 3G OV imo..
The Elite costs half the price of the 4G Evo V as of now and the OE is a good android option for rural users on a tight budget in 3G only areas or for anyone not needing 4G or a contract..

I was surprised to find that Elite sports a Snapdragon S2 with Adreno 205. I thought it was just an overclocked version of the OV's SOC. In this video, it shows that Temple Run, and flash are installed. Which means it has a Armv7 CPU. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3JTj_TXDkQ#t=1m05s

This phone has all the features I wish the OV had. Which are: Camera Flash, Armv7, Adreno 205, and 4 GB internal storage. The only thing missing is higher res screen. For my next phone I want the above mentioned features, plus 800x480 minimum, video out (play emu on tv), and 3.5 to 4.3 inch screen, all for around $250 (used is ok). Is that too much to ask for?

Agreed, but I just can't see spending ~$300 on a phone, and I'm never going to get their Wimax 4G here anyway.

This is what I'm thinking. If this phone was available when I bought my OV I would have sprung for it immediately, but at the time the only other option was the Slider, which did nothing for me considering the price difference.
