Which Phone has better battery life? S4 or HTC ONE?

Alright so i finally got my hands on the S4 and i will probably use it for a week or so to decide which device is better FOR ME. I've used it last night and this morning and here are my first thoughts:
in my opinion the HTC One has a better interface in terms of sms, phone portal, and contacts. Took a few pictures and felt that the htc actually has a better camera ( will do further testing ). Music definitely sounds better on the One. I have experience some lag in the s4, but they are minimal and one huge one was when ATT was trying to update the phone so no biggie. The S4 is more comfortable to hold. I cant say much about the battery life yet because snapdragon is still learning my habits so gotta wait like 4 days... Since i'm new to the s4 can anyone give me some beginner tips and tricks to make my experience better?

Agreed. It is also true that the tests results should come as no surprise simply because the S4 battery is larger. In other words, the results do not fly in the face of logic.

Well said. The only thing I found surprising was how little the extra sensors drained battery. Good job on Samsung for that.

S4 has a slightly better battery, usage aside. But S4 has alot of peace of mind when it comes to battery life.. I don't have to worry about over or under charging on a daily basis, battery juice deterioration isn't a problem given how cheap and easy it is to install a new one. Spare batteries are super useful especially if you're at an event where you're talking lots of pictures/uploading, I know alot of iPhone users who bring their charging cable to events out of habit.

If i do keep this the s4, i plan on buying this: Amazon.com: Anker? 2 x 2600mAh Li-ion Batteries for Samsung Galaxy S4, S IV, SIV, GT-I9505, with S Beam + Anker? Travel Charger [18-Month Warranty]: Cell Phones & Accessories
This is whats pulling me towards the s4, but functionality wise, the lag is def there.

are you using touchwiz? its known to be alittle buggy, i hope samsung will keep updating it. I recommend nova launcher, its more minimalistic than other launchers but very stylish especially with a good wallpaper. if you still have lags and shutters it could be a hardware problem. Well i think i'm barely using touchwiz. I like to use the phone at it's full potential, if i wasn't y would i get the newest and latest? but i will definitely check out nova launcher, i've heard alot of good things about it.
So my update about the battery. I started using my phone at 8 am this morning and by 1:30 it was at 50%, thats when i started to plug in my phone via computer. I understand that it charges slower when charging on the computer, but i'm using the battery faster than its charging? It's currently at 49%. Granted i'm a heavy user. I would like to get it run down to 0% to get an accurate reading but i dont want to run into the situation where i'm stuck with no battery at the gym. Also that product u suggested will make my phone into a brick and will not fit in any of my pockets lol.

touchwiz is the ui,and by that answer im assuming youre using it, try nova launcher and if its just as laggy its definitely your phone. As for the added size, its less than a centimeter thicker... Do you wear skinny jeans or something? hahaha it'll fit trust me, i had to same one for the s3 and its not even that thick. This product came out 2 days ago and now theres only 10 left. Dont turn down this deal trust me, very good company

i have read on a lot of wbsites that s4 has a slightly better battery life.
Also, its battery is replacable, which is not the case with htc one

I've used 31% in 3:06 hours, is this normal?

That works out to about 10 hours before a dead battery. It depends on what you are doing. If your screen was on a lot and the brightness is set high then that's not a bad number. But if not I'd check for things running in the background.

Since this thread won't die... I've had my One for 3 weeks and a few days now. I plug it in at night and let it charge all night. During the day, I read the news, look at Blinkfeed pretty much whenever I sit down next to the phone, use my timer for lunch, listen to tunes on the way to work and home (26 miles each way) and listen through headphones with the screen on for 45 minutes a night while jogging. I also text, use my calendar, email, work email, and other crap. The battery is fine for that kind of use, and fine for me. It's also a black one, used "naked", and has no scratches on it whatsoever.

That's a relief, my brightness is on auto and i'm assuming that saves more battery? update: 53% in 5:03, and about to plug in my charger. I was hoping that it would be a better battery to be honest.

I set my screen brightness to the lowest level I can comfortably see indoors. If I need it brighter I adjust it manually. I think that saves more battery than auto adjust. There are several web postings about the HTC ONE battery life and some people are not happy with it. I would check them out (Google: disappointing HTC ONE battery life) because in most cases other owners will reply with suggestions on how to improve battery life.

I agree. Automatic brightness is pretty harsh on battery life.

Transmitted through spacetime.

Which is better is subject to usage.. You have one person that has their screen on more than someone else then over a period of time it will drain faster.
From using both phones I've found them both to be very close in screen time. The s4 has a slightly bigger battery but it has a slightly larger screen.
I'm seeing around 5 hours of screen on time with my one and my wife's s4 is right around that same time.

Im thinking of going from an iPhone 4 to HTC One, but all this talk about below-average battery and camera is discouraging (especially considering that I would run it with the GE rom).
I guess my concern is if this is something that's going to date quickly? I dont really want to change phones every 1-2 years if I can.
Am I better off waiting another 6 months or so for something better in both hardware and style?

I can run through a 100% on my HTC one in a day. But it's in use a lot. During my night job I listen to podcasts while I work (4-5hrs). And on my day job in listen to audiobooks (7,5hrs). So, I'm not disappointed with my battery with that kind of usage. All in all a great phone that I wouldn't switch out for nothing at the moment.
