Which phone to get, G5 or S7?

I had the G3 since launch and was very happy with it. I was due for an upgrade and went with the S7 edge. So far I'm impressed. I don't really have an allegiance to any oem, I've had phones from all of them, some good some bad.

These are your only choices right now. The HTC and Motorola phones haven't been released yet.

Here are my priorities:

1. Even though I love my G4 (a great phone) it is still a little too big for me. So, the size of the S7 as a compact flagship (no compromises, same specs as the S7 Edge).

2. Wireless charging - it really transforms how you charge your phone.

3. Waterproof - I already lost one phone to a dunk in the pool.

I'm not due for an upgrade until July so I have plenty of time to flip-flop and agonize about my options.

Seems to me that if you didn't initially like the G5, you wouldn't have started this thread. I would wait and see how the G5 does once it is actually available and reviewed. No one knows for sure if it is going to be good or have issues. You can't make a decision based on the a couple of hands on videos. I think it is safe to say it will be a great phone, just saying.

The S7 might be a stronger consideration for you if you know and really like Samsung. It is a good solid phone. But then I am a devoted unlocked phone buyer and have a tendency to like LG better in general, so that rules out Samsung for me.

I'm thinking of trading my V10 for the LG G5. Any thoughts? I also have the GS7 edge being an owner of a LG V10 the Galaxy S7 Edge is a much better phone than the G5

I am (almost certainly, still need to hear a bit more about the fit of the 'chin' to the main body) going with the G5.

I need (well, really want) a phone under 6 inches tall. I have a favorite metal purse which a taller phone won't fit in, and that's close to a deal breaker. So as much as my aging eyes like the larger phones, I leave that to my tablet.

My reasons for choosing the G5 over the oh-so-sexy S7 Edge (I'd want the larger Edge over the standard).
- G5 looks to be a bit sturdier. I rarely drop my phone, but it does happen. Due to the above size constraint, I'd be rocking a slim case. I am skeptical that would save a glass front/glass back phone from a drop onto concrete. A crack, even not interfering with use, would drive me nuts. The G5 is certainly breakable, but just doesn't seem quite as delicate as the S7.
- Replaceable battery. I most likely won't have to swap batteries between chargings. But, I do like to replace the battery when it holds significantly less charge than when it was new. My trusty Galaxy S4 has gotten three new batteries in it's life.
- LCD screen. OLED is beautiful, but can suffer burn in. I have a bit on my S4, mostly from games. I'd rather not worry about it.
- LG Friends. Cool, but just a plus. Will use the camera grip for vacation, as much for the extended battery as the camera buttons. And the LG rolling robot thing - will buy just to entertain the household pets. Just a plus.

The S7 Edge is a nice piece of tech, but for me the LG G5 is a better bet. Also, I'm on a Verizon UDP, so I buy the phone outright (I know there is a delayed payment thing, but I just buy it), so unless there is a compelling advancement in tech that I absolutely must have, I'll be keeping the phone three or more years. That's why, for me, the battery replacement is a big deal.

Exactly why I cancelled my preorder of the s7 edge and preordered this. I want to keep my next phone for a few years and feel the G5 will have less things to worry about.

Does anyone know if Samsung has corrected/fixed the eventual slowdown every device with Touchwiz goes through??? I came across 3 devices (a Note 4, S5 and S6 edge) with this problem this week with minimal change according to their owners. I've had my G4 now for almost a full year and it hasn't slowed down.

I'm now convinced that the S7 is better honestly. After seeing gsm arena's review of the G5, it's battery life won't cut it for me.

I honestly don't know why they or anyone would review a pre-production model. The battery life may be better with the production model. Guess we'll have to see. Seeing that it's removable, i'm getting it anyway.

Those pre-production models are the ones they got offered to review so it shouldn't be a big difference between it and the final version.

As far as the removable battery, that's cool and all but I prefer having a long lasting phone. The G5 seems to be average at best. But to each his own.

Take a look at lg problems on here. They have also been riddled with them. I'm on my 2nd lg g4 in 8mo. I'm on here now with my trusty galaxy s4, waiting for a replacement. I just wanted to let you know my experience with lg. Switching to nexus or Samsung ASAP. Good luck!

The screen on the S7 is just too small for me. Even the G5 will take getting used to if I switch from the V10. You have to play around with the S7 to see how much you are missing.

I was in the same situation as you. Coming from the LG g4, I personally only had a few small problems with which was all fixed with updates.

My problem with the g4 was battery life. Although I did have two batteries, I didn't like to carry them with me all the time. Getting an average of about 4hrs of sot, and 16hrs on the radio. I consider myself to be a medium user. So if I had a slow work day and really was focused on the phone, I would have to swap the battery at about 2pm, coming off the charger at 7am.

The size of the g4 was just a little too big as well, even though they did a great job with the form of a 5.5 inch phone.

With the confirmed pics and specs of the new g5, I wasn't impressed enough to upgrade from my g4.

When the gs7 launched I went over to handle the phone personally. I loved the size right away...just perfect for me. So I said, what the hell and jumped on the s7 and thought if the battery doesn't live up to the hype, I could always return it within the 14 day grace period.

I gotta say it has been very impressive phone in terms of battery life. Averaging close to 7hrs sot and about 15hrs on the radio.

I'm a happy camper right now and only had the phone for a week.

By the way I'm using the Canadian version exynos, without any of the problems of the snapdragon 820

Same here, my big phone experiment is over...never again. S7 or I'll hold out for something smaller. The G5 never stood a chance with me because of the size.

I'm crazy, some may say, for having used a Webos Pre 3 to this day ;-) Alas it is time to upgrade! For me, I am looking at the G5. My wife got a Samsung S6 9 months ago. She is on her 3rd phone and the new one has its own set of issues. After watching this experience I am not willing to experiment with a Samsung product. Looking forward to seeing a G5 in person.

The Samsung looks nice but I have a long history of bad experiences with them and I just can't get past that. I'm willing to admit they've made advancements but it's just hard to remove that bad taste, you know?

I'm going G5 or M10 (depending on how good the camera is). I want an unlocked phone that works in the US - as in, made for the US. I'm kind of tired of dealing with anything pertaining to carrier BS. I like my AT&T service. I don't like them messing with updates and adding/removing things from MY phone.

I think you can pay it off early but since it's no interest....why bother?

I have both the S7 and G5. The S7 is blah in my opinion. The phone S7 still has lag. Battery isn't that great in it. I flew to Manhattan earlier this week and I ended up charging my S7 at least twice while out and about in Times Square. The screen is great on it. But I did wish I could remove that battery and pop a new one in. That's the main reason I went and bought the G5 this morning.

What are your thoughts on the G5 so far?

I'm torn on what phone I want.

So far I'm liking the G5 more. However one issue I'm having with the G5 is that when I use the headphone jack for music in my car, I get static. There is a thread on here about the issue as well. I plan on buying a Bluetooth Converter tomorrow so that I can play my music in my car.

Other than that, I haven't experienced any of the issues other people have been.

Overall I like it more than my S7.
