I am (almost certainly, still need to hear a bit more about the fit of the 'chin' to the main body) going with the G5.
I need (well, really want) a phone under 6 inches tall. I have a favorite metal purse which a taller phone won't fit in, and that's close to a deal breaker. So as much as my aging eyes like the larger phones, I leave that to my tablet.
My reasons for choosing the G5 over the oh-so-sexy S7 Edge (I'd want the larger Edge over the standard).
- G5 looks to be a bit sturdier. I rarely drop my phone, but it does happen. Due to the above size constraint, I'd be rocking a slim case. I am skeptical that would save a glass front/glass back phone from a drop onto concrete. A crack, even not interfering with use, would drive me nuts. The G5 is certainly breakable, but just doesn't seem quite as delicate as the S7.
- Replaceable battery. I most likely won't have to swap batteries between chargings. But, I do like to replace the battery when it holds significantly less charge than when it was new. My trusty Galaxy S4 has gotten three new batteries in it's life.
- LCD screen. OLED is beautiful, but can suffer burn in. I have a bit on my S4, mostly from games. I'd rather not worry about it.
- LG Friends. Cool, but just a plus. Will use the camera grip for vacation, as much for the extended battery as the camera buttons. And the LG rolling robot thing - will buy just to entertain the household pets. Just a plus.
The S7 Edge is a nice piece of tech, but for me the LG G5 is a better bet. Also, I'm on a Verizon UDP, so I buy the phone outright (I know there is a delayed payment thing, but I just buy it), so unless there is a compelling advancement in tech that I absolutely must have, I'll be keeping the phone three or more years. That's why, for me, the battery replacement is a big deal.
I'm now convinced that the S7 is better honestly. After seeing gsm arena's review of the G5, it's battery life won't cut it for me.
Those pre-production models are the ones they got offered to review so it shouldn't be a big difference between it and the final version.I honestly don't know why they or anyone would review a pre-production model. The battery life may be better with the production model. Guess we'll have to see. Seeing that it's removable, i'm getting it anyway.
1. Even though I love my G4 (a great phone) it is still a little too big for me. So, the size of the S7 as a compact flagship.
I'm crazy, some may say, for having used a Webos Pre 3 to this day ;-) Alas it is time to upgrade! For me, I am looking at the G5. My wife got a Samsung S6 9 months ago. She is on her 3rd phone and the new one has its own set of issues. After watching this experience I am not willing to experiment with a Samsung product. Looking forward to seeing a G5 in person.

I have both the S7 and G5. The S7 is blah in my opinion. The phone S7 still has lag. Battery isn't that great in it. I flew to Manhattan earlier this week and I ended up charging my S7 at least twice while out and about in Times Square. The screen is great on it. But I did wish I could remove that battery and pop a new one in. That's the main reason I went and bought the G5 this morning.
So far I'm liking the G5 more. However one issue I'm having with the G5 is that when I use the headphone jack for music in my car, I get static. There is a thread on here about the issue as well. I plan on buying a Bluetooth Converter tomorrow so that I can play my music in my car. What are your thoughts on the G5 so far?
I'm torn on what phone I want.
