Hi, all.
There are a lot of discussing between the Evo and the Epic. So, I thought i would make a poll on which phone processor do you think run smoother(Period).

I just want to see how the community vote on either processor.

although i have a fascinate it has the same processor as an epic and it runs very smooth for me. A co-worker has the evo and his phone seems to lag a bit in comparison but that could from the size of the screen perhaps its working a little harder for the images. But they are both very smooth so its a tough call. Most people either have one phone or the other and even if they have had a chance to play with both unless you spend a day with the other phone its tough to make a call. So when it comes to questions like this i feel most people will be biased. Always best to go the store and play with them yourself for awhile.

Well, I might be bias towards the Evo then.... lol. I've played with both _ fully loaded with apps and all. However, the Evo seems smoother to me.

I realise that each person choice will be in favor of the device of one's choice, so feel free to explain why.

When it comes to basic tasks, there wont be much of a difference. My friends Vibrant, which is the same as the Epic is basically dead on with my Evo is basic tasks. Some things my Evo does faster, some things his Vibrant does faster. But when it comes to games, especially 3D games, the Epic/Vibrant/Fascinate/Captivate absolutely blow the Evo away. The Hummingbirds GPU is MUCH better than the GPU (Adreno) found in the Snapdragon. With that said the newer Snapdragon processors are at least as good if not better than the Hummingbird processors.

I'd say they are pretty equal. The Epic seems to attempt to be smoother, but often lags for a second or two. For example, if you press the home key from the internet browser and immediately swipe to another part of your home screens, it normally lags just a bit. The Evo has it's hiccups too, but in different places.

The Epic 4G gets way better battery life. My coworker has one and charges it once every two days, where as I'm lucky to get through 16 hours with moderate use.

I get 24-40 hours of battery life. It's not the phone, it's the user and the way it's configured. (fyi, i'm using myn's warm 2.2 with the colin battery mod)

Samsung galaxy phones also don't have Froyo yet. It's not really a fair comparison. It's like saying, "what's better the space X dragon capsule, or nasa's titan launchers" it doesn't matter, both get the job done and go to outer space. The differences, while there are a plethora of them, are pretty much just preference... any user should be satisfied with both.

evo for sure... i have both on my plan and epic lags alot more. I set it up as best as possible without having to root it, and it just doesnt keep my attention. It freezes alot too. Has never been dropped either. i dont like the system on the samsungs either.

To be honest, unless you are playing game, it really doesn't matter. It's like the difference between a Ferrari and a Lambo. They're both way faster than what you had and the milliseconds save or lost here and there don't add up to much.

Things to consider. First of all, the bigger screen of the Evo does not put it at an disadvantage compared to the smaller screen of the Epic when it comes to overall sluggishness since both processors have the same amount of pixels to throw around since both phones run a 800 x 480.

Next on the list is the OS, Froyo runs better than Eclair and since, as of now, the Evo has Froyo and the Epic is still playing around with 2.1, the comparison again is a bit offset, this time in the evos favor.

But, hardware for hardware, the Galaxy S phones have the upper handle, the Hummingbird is just way faster than that Adreno POS we have in the Evo, so for games, and live wallpapers, the Epic wins, even with the older OS. Once the Epic has 2.2, the winner in terms of speed and smoothness will be crystal clear.

Also to consider are the two custom UI's, HTC Sense vs whatever Samsung calls it's iPhone imitation looking UI.

The Epic definitely has longer legs in the hardware department, it only falls short with the lower MP camera and smaller screen size, but makes up for it with better screen quality.

Tough call.

So I just played with my mother in laws epic for a few hours and I gotta say I'm not impressed. I don't know, I found it a bit laggy and even a bit cheap comparitively.

I respect the fact that some people like it, but I'm happy I have the evo:)

life is just evoliscious!

Bones to bones.....humming bird wins. Speed at the bus, nms, triangles per second. Add the variables, OS, UI and it is game on player......

It's a well known fact that the Hummingbird is faster than the Snapdragon in the Evo (and the MT4G for that fact, too) and that's without Froyo.

I'm closing this thread.
