I currently have a Nexus 6p which I use on Verizon. I purchased a Verizon version 2xl and have 2 different instructions. Instructions from the box say to use my existing SIM card. I received an email from Google/Verizon stating to use the new SIM and activate it online. What instructions do I go with?

Spin off question... When I sell my 6p do I include the unused SIM?

NO, do NOT include a SIM when you sell your device.

In THEORY you can just swap the SIM over but there's nothing being stored on the SIM other than your account ID info so you could just use the one they send. The SIM is not tied to a device though, only your account.

Actually, you should be able to just put the SIM card from your 6P into the Pixel 2. You're not required to use the new SIM.
I'm going to tag @Aquila and @Almeuit because they both have Verizon and they would know better than me.

I'm not on Verizon but I ordered the blue color (which comes with a Verizon sim) for the Pixel 2. All I needed to do was to take the SIM out and put my carrier sim in.

First thing... Never sell a device with a SIM. Always just send it without. The new buyer can get one from their carrier.

As for your other question. You can just use the SIM you have (if it is the same size of course) without worry. It will work just fine :).

Thanks @libra89.

I'm on Verizon and went from a 6P to a Pixel 2 and the swap between the 2 phones was pretty SIMple. Har. Thank you, I'll be here all week.

But seriously, both the 6P and the P2 (and Pixel 2 XL) use a nano SIM. It was a quick and painless swap. And I kept my grandfathered unlimited data plan. Which I'm considering dropping for T-Mobile. But that's a whole 'nother conversation.

Thanks everyone! I remembered swapping my SIM into my 6p but with the mixed information it confused me. Didn't want to mess anything up.

Ok! Noted.. Always keep the sim!

Personally I open the box, take the SIM out, throw the SIM away and then do whatever I'm about to do with the device, whether it's use it or sell it.
