Who is getting the Xoom 4g LTE (Xoom 2)?

If you check out the Motorola site, you don't even see them mention LTE anywhere for the Xoom anymore.

In an odd sort of way, the idea of coming up with a Xoom with the built in LTE almost makes sense for them. I think what Motorola did was make a huge mistake on something on the Xoom and are now trying to correct it with a newer tablet engineered around the LTE. They certainly don't want to keep selling the current model, that would have to be sent in to them to have LTE added (once it is available). It is cheaper for them to do a redesign.

What it does tell me, if the FCC approval is true, is that the current Xoom LTE may well be a kludgy, haphazard and half baked solution that may or may not work reliably.

I do stick with my original conclusion that Motorola should not have released this until LTE was ready on it. Would have saved them a lot of unhappy customers and the resultant bad will.

We will just have to wait and see.

I'll glady exchange my Xoom 1 on contract for a Xoom 2 on contract (With no cost to me) if they can't get LTE working in the Xoom 1. I've been on contract since launch day 2/24/11. I'm starting to get a bit peeved......

Me too, but I doubt it would play that way. Moto/VZW would lose way too much money to offer a direct swap like that. Of course, if they do get the LTE working on the current Xoom, it would be a moot point.

I'd be happy if they just let me out of my 2 year contract... then I'll use the Xoom as wifi only and use tethering from my Thunderbolt... if I had the TB first, I would have just gone that route in the first place. But, if they can't upgrade my Xoom to LTE, that would a reason for them to let me out of contract.

If they do not upgrade my Xoom, or replace it with a 4G LTE, I personally will never ever, purchase another Motorola product.

At least for me, they are skating on thin ice. They sent me an email telling me my Xoom would be upgraded sometime in the 2nd quarter, but that hasn't happened. In my opinion if they do not upgrade the Xoom, as claimed, then they have made a bait and switch move. For me, that is a company not worthy of anything but contempt.

I'll be super pissed about it too, and I'd like to say I'd never I would never buy any of their products again, but I'll probably still get the bionic. :(

I'm really starting to think that realistically, Motorola will replace all those who currently have 3G Xooms with the new version that is upcoming. I think it might be worth it for them to go that route than pay for shipping to and from each buyer, and then pay for a technician to basically re-manufacture the device. Plus, it would instantly turn the tide on all the negativity surrounding the Xoom.

I think this may be why there is a delay in the upgrade process--because they are waiting for approval from the FCC to begin manufacturing the new Xoom and send it out.

Would be nice if you are correct. All we can do is wait and see as anything we say is purely conjecture at this point. I do know that a rebate off of the cost of the new one would not be acceptable to me.

I remember when the Xoom was first announced early this year, there was a report regarding how the 4G LTE upgrade would happen (this was prior to the announcement about shipping the Xoom back to Motorola for the upgrade). The story speculated that Moto would have the VZW in-store techs do the LTE radio swap-in, but also suggested the easiest route might be to have Moto just swap the Xoom out for a new model. I'll try to find that story and post the link.

If they do not put the LTE radio in the current Xoom model then VZW and Moto should give each one of you guys a mobile hotspot for free or very cheap with NO contract.

I have a mobile hotspot through work, and the one HUGE problem that I have with that solution is that it's more to carry around. My Xoom is supposed to have LTE *AND* be a mobile hotspot in and of itself. I think you have a valid point, but it's not a great solution.

I don't think that Motorola as a corporation has the character or integrity to actually do that. The fact that they have been unwilling to communicate with their customers, after they paid hundreds of dollars for this device does not give me any confidence in them to do the right thing.

I think that the whole Xoom issue has paralyzed them. There have likely been twice weekly board meetings trying to decide what to do. The whole idea of having people send in a Xoom to have a 4G radio added is ludicrous. I *think* there will either be some form of compensation or an entirely new model Xoom sent out. I doubt the upgrade plan will be implemented at this point, but I'm only speculating. Notice there has also been no software update to activate the SD card.
