Who is returning and why?

I'm definitely not getting rid of my car so my only other option is let go of Android. I haaaaaate everything Apple but if I want to use the infotainment unit I paid extra for looks like I will have to switch. I'm kinda depressed about it because I LOVE my 10+

So you bought a new car and added an in-car feature for an OS you hate? I'm not familiar with the infotainment thing you speak of. Or is it supposed to also be AA compatible?

I suggest contacting them directly and submitting a bug report.

Other than that, never add a feature to a car that depends on an app to function.

I've been researching online and several people are having similar issues. I doubt it's just my device

Several people online is still a very small sample. I agree with Mike, you might have a bad unit. That's not uncommon early in a smartphone release cycle. Some others drew the short stick last time out, you did this time.

Hopefully you'll be better success with your next device, whatever you choose 😊

I'm cool with that. Luck of the draw is fine by me. This is a return thread and for people to explain the reasoning why they are returning the phone, so I'm stating why I'm returning the phone. Bad device, crappy service, or whatever else may be going on with it...it's going back. I'm not pleased with it.

Where did I say I added a feature for an OS I hate? I have a 2017 Kia Soul Exclaim, it came with the infotainment system that is AA compatible. I wanted to be able to use AA eg have maps, music, texts read aloud and Google Asst. all hands free. Everything was fine until my phones had a security patch update, now AA is useless. I have been using Android since the first Galaxy phone, I love it.

I submitted a bug report last year when this started and after every AA update. Didn't help. Didn't help the other thousands of people complaining to Google either.

If I didn't depend on the AA app how else would I use it? Car manufacturers don't make it seamless as they do for Apple Car Play. That is why I said I am thinking of returning my beautiful 10+ because I want my phone to just work. There is no way to stop updates and I am tired of having to go a different route because I don't have an iPhone. I am already left-handed living in a right-handed world. I'm over it.

I already told you I'm not familiar with the infotainment center thing. That's why I asked if it was also supposed to be AA compatible. And you're saying that this feature wasn't a factor in your decision to purchase the car?

Sure you can stop the updates. Turn off auto-update in the Google Play store.

But you're willing to switch to an OS you previously stated you hate, just because you can't use the S10+ in your car? Ask yourself this. Which do I use more? Do you drive for a living? Are you in your car for hours on end, day after day? Or do you use your phone for various functions all through the day, day after day? If you get in your car and drive from point A to point B for a few minutes here and there, why switch phones just for these few minutes? Heck, even if it is an hour drive from home to work, you're still going to use your phone more throughout the day.

I can empathize with your frustration. In my Mini Cooper my iPhones work flawlessly. In my 370z NIZMO my iPhones work flawlessly. Neither vehicle plays well with Android. A little frustrating but not a deal breaker for me.

agreed. My JVC in my Camry I finally got it working right with my s10 plus, but our Nissan Rogue, not yet sadly. :(. Haven't figured that one out yet.

I don't buy from them anymore either, not after they banned me for returning a device AND paying the restocking fee. I mean, why even charge the restocking fee if you're just going to ban a customer from returning anyways? It's ridiculous. No wonder the company is dying. Good riddance.

Agreed. I also stop giving them business unless I absolutely can't wait and have to go get something local, they are the only electronics store in my town.

They screwed me on my Note 9 preorder, and I would never deal with them again after that. Although, Samsung isn't much better at the moment. A month after ordering a phone, they still haven't shipped it, or canceled my order. I turned Samsung into the BBB and got the presidents office to respond, but still hasn't been canceled. LOL.

I think you'll agree, it's no fault of the S10+ that they don't work with automobiles. Complaints need to be directed to the auto manufacturer.

Few companies are as bad to deal with as Samsung Direct once your order needs attention. Been there done that. I hold my breath when I do business with them and pray I don't need to contact them over an anomaly. It's a rabbit hole.

Being able to use AA was a factor in paying extra for basically a radio with a screen. Plenty of people pay extra so they can use AA or Apple Car Play. Isn't that why we get all excited about new features on a phone? Because of what we can do with it.

My auto-updates in the play store/Samsung app store have been off for years. That was one of the first things I checked after my inital set-up. That didnt stop the security patch and there was no option to NOT update. Only to schedule the update or "install now". If it was just a Samsung issue I would just switch to another brand but it is happening across all brands of phones when you read the AA thread in the Google Product forums.

Yes, it is worth it to switch because you made an awfully big assumption about how I use my phone. No, I don't use my phone that much throughout the day. I am a hairstylist so I can not be on my phone at all at work. I am not addicted to social media and I use my tablet or laptop at home. I use my phone more in my car than anywhere else. This is my deal breaker. We all have our reasons for things, this is mine. I want my phone to plug into my car so I can see it on the screen and use Google Asst for everything. It's not doing this. I won't wait around for Google to fix things that aren't a priority for them. I don't like iPhones but Apple Car Play works without issues. I love Android and everything about it but what good is that if it doesn't do the very thing I want/need it to do.

I haven't been this satisfied with a new phone in a long time. The S8 and S9 were great phones but I've really missed a front facing fps ever since leaving the S7. Add in the ridiculous speed thanks to 8gb of RAM that rivals the speed of the OnePlus and iPhone, and a camera that rivals the Pixel 3, the best implementation of a notch yet, and the best display ever made, and it comes together as a very satisfying device to use.

Best Buy has gotten anti customer service over the years. I won't buy from them anymore. They treat customers like cattle, they don't smile, they love getting out of dealing with you by regurgitating their policies as though every situation is the same, and they no longer offer that personal touch. I watched several employees literally walk right past me when I was interested in sound system.

And the employees don’t know anything either, especially when it comes to Best Buy’s own policies.

Sorry, didn’t mean to hijack this thread to complain about Best Buy.

These phones are so good, IMO, that I don't care too much that they don't play well in my cars. When/if that's important I still have my iPhones.

Well I think I've decided to return my S10. I do like it very much, but I just don't have much use-case for the new features compared to how I use my S8. At least, not enough to justify the cost of a new phone. Decisions, decisions.

We distribute S8's (grammar?) and they're just really nice phone still. That blue is just gorgeous to me.

I'm returning my S10. Was coming from a Note 8. It just felt like a downgrade after 5 days of use. Battery life was somehow worse than my note 8. Screen size while not much of a difference it was noticeable especially with the hole punch. Didn't think it was worth the change even with the $550 trade in, so it's back to the Note 8 for me. I am wishing I got the S10+ instead, now without the free buds promo anymore I'm just going to wait.

I'm a casual user compared to most of you nuts. I test drove my S10+ for the last five days and have decided to return it.

For average use I'm not finding that it's that much of an upgrade over my Note 8. The FPS is ok but not nearly as reliable as my Note 8. I have to use FPS for a number of secure apps that are work related.

Hopefully by the time the Note 10 is released the FPS will be snappier and I can upgrade.
