Who is still rocking the rooted stock ROM?

Go back to this link and Read Page 3 (Posts 23-27) and they explain that the Tethering that is being used Bypasses the Verizon Checks and that NO DATA is being used when using this Tethering Method.

[MOD][VRALG1] Enable Stock Mobile Hotspot (Tethering) - xda-developers

I actually read through the entire thread before posting this morning, but no where in there (even the posts you point out) does it say that "NO DATA" is being used. It simply states that Verizon cannot detect you are tethering (which, as I mentioned earlier, is a concern for those of us on legacy plans).

I also read through the entire dev thread on the app in question, and the only thing mentioned is that it removes the provisioning check to avoid changes for Mobile Hotspot...not that does not use data.

Again, I'm really not trying to argue, but I'm also hesitant to believe that you're really not accruing data while using the tether app. I don't work for Verizon though, and think their new plans are ridiculous, so if you are getting free data, more power to you.

the only reason they are giving you tethering for "free" (not charging extra for the ability) now is because you now have a data cap and that tethered data goes against the cap. don't think for a second that they are really giving you something like this for free.

Then why is my Data Useage at 1.288GB. If my Data Useage was being counted as you think I would well be over 6GB by Now. I check my Data Useage regularly and as of today 8-28-12 I am at 1.288gb. My Billing Cycle starts on the 8th of every month. The ONLY Data I am being charged for is the Data I use for my Phone NOT for Tethering. I use the Stock Verizon MH.

Think what you want, I know what's happening as I watch it everyday.

BTW - They are not giving me Anything for Free. This is why I am Rooted and have an Unlocked Bootloader. There are ways around EVERYTHING.

Me, and I love the fact I can pass the UI off as an iPhone...said no one ever.

I say more power to you and anyone on these new shared plans who don't accumulate any excess data charges by tethering. I was only stating what I understood from reading VZW's propaganda marketing material.

This was my point exactly.

Exactly. I found a way around it and use it to my advantage. I received my Bill today and there were NO Data Overage Charges.

I am also Rooted with an Unlocked Bootloader (have Free Mobile Hotspot) and for now I will stay Stock. My main reason is the NFL Mobile App. I had an OG EVO (with Sense) that I put many ROM's on, a Motorola Photon with MotoBlur and quite frankly TouchWiz is not all that bad. I have a WiFi Xoom with JB and will wait for a Stable JB ROM or for Verizon to update the SGSIII.

I got rooted last night without a hitch! You had mentioned NFL mobile. Was that your reason for staying on the stock ROM or are you getting it free? I downloaded wifi tethering app and have that set up. I'm not comfortable modifying any apk files, at least yet, so I will stick to the third party tethering app.

Thanks for the help!

Stock rooted with the wifi notification mod and blue toggle mod. Waiting for touchwiz jellybean to flash I think.

No, NFL Mobile is an App from Verizon that I pay $5 a month for. It's not free.

the regular NFL Mobile app is free, but I imagine you are paying for the premium access where you get to watch NFL redzone, sunday and monday night football on your phone and some other stuff I forget.

That's true. I have both Apps but I also pay for Premium.

Hey guys sorry for the noobiness, but I just rooted my phone last night and I'm not sure which tethering app I should get or how to get it. I'm still running the stock ics on my Rezound and am completely lost about what to do now. I guess I had figured that Foxfi would just magically work once I was rooted, but that wasn't the case. Please help? Tethering was the main reason I rooted, so it's kinda pointless if I can't do it.

Edit: I also have a grandfathered account and unlimited data, so I don't need to worry about a cap. Oh, and some people mentioned that tethering like that violates Verizon's TOS. From what I understand, that is no longer the case. There was a lawsuit involving the FCC and Verizon and the verdict was that Verizon couldn't limit the way people used their data through third party apps because they purchased block c and that was one of the conditions of the purchase or something along those lines.

They can't block the app in the Play Store. Their TOS regarding tethering applications are still in place though for those on unlimited plans.

Oh. I didn't know that. So they could still come after me for tethering if I use too much data?

I'm still on the rooted stock rom. I've given thought to trying some ROMs but..... I don't like any of the third party launchers (something is always missing, IE: notifications for the stock email app, calendar widget won't work anymore, etc.). Plus I actually really like Touchwiz.

That being said, I keep eyeing CleanRom and thinking perhaps I ought to give it a try. I think it offers the best of both worlds. I'd love to optimize my experience a bit more and if I could change all the green symbols, etc. to blue and have a better setup of quick controls in the notification bar, I think it would be perfect.

Wow, I just checked out a You Tube video of Clean ROM. It looks pretty nice. Fairly close to stock, but with some nice added touches and bloat free. Anyone actually have an opinion on Clean ROM?

It runs well but usually caused issues for me in the long run (Inaccurate battery percentages, loss of 3G connectivity) each time I've tried it.
