Who is To Blame for giant phones?

Dude what the actual heck? I logged in just to tell you how wrong you are. Sony Xperia Z1 compact exists since well over a year and its more powerful than the Galaxy Alpha!

And Z3 compact comes the same day as Note 3, and it blows even i6 out of the water!

The Note 3 is already out, did you mean Note 4? And we don't know the specs as it isn't even announced yet, so we can't say that it will blow the iPhone 6 away

open your eyes. the people have chosen.

Of course they did, but the devices were already made before they even made a choice. And even then, plenty of smaller form factor devices are being sold, so what is the big deal about making one with high ends specs in the same form factor?

Yes but there are 350 million or so people in the United states, and over 2 billion in China and India alone, so you can see which is a bigger market
And yes, Samsung is losing a lot of marketshare to those Chinese companies

And those companies and Apple make a lot of devices that aren't phablets, so what is the issue?

If iPhones are still status symbols, Galaxy SXs and Note Xs are too. An iPhone 5S user probably paid the same amount as someone who bought a Galaxy S5.
Well actually in countries like India wheir you don't have carrier subsidy and get the phone unlocked you can buy a iphone 5s 64gb for 1250 $ approx while a note 4 for less then 666$ approx and believe me causeI live here and know and have seen that iphone is treated as a status symbol.

No, that's actually not what I said. I just don't think the whole world revolves around Apple and they've always had, shall we say, a certain attitude. Overall, Android has obviously captured a huge part of the market that Apple arguably created, or at least made exciting for the first time. A different vision in hardware choices is a major reason why because many folks simply didn't share Apple's vision.

I.e, not surprisingly, they do better in their home market, but even there they are now in the minority despite the head start that they had (and in many respects squandered because of their refusal to adjust to market reality.)

I am sorry, but how are they are they a minority? That does not make sense when they are one of the two biggest smartphone manufacturers in the U.S., if anything everyone who isn't Apple or Samsung is a minority in the U.S.

Don't twist facts.

In this case it was driven by the market. Remember Samsung offers multiple lines and different sizes because they want a foothold in each one.

You can go from a S5 to the upcoming Note 4 to the upcoming Mega 2. The S5 mini is coming out soon also but it seems like the U.S. launch is maybe replaced by the S Alpha.

The thing is, I am arguing for better specs in smaller form factors yet everyone here is arguing against that for some unknown reason, yet manufacturers spend millions on making devices that flop all the time, what is the problem with having a better choice?

What? I think you need to fact check.

That is called a generalization. I am pretty sure no matter where you are in the world, someone wanted an iPhone not only because of it's status.

I don't understand how "freedom and choice" the very thing everyone who is an Android fan loves to say is for, is against my position. I have no clue why are some here arguing against having a good phone in a small form factor.

😕

Well I only told the scenario over here, ofcourse people don't want things only when they can show their status, I nowhere state anything regarding generalization, thats just how things usually seem at this part of the world.

I agree with you! Everyone on the forum and I are just trying to tell you why the manufacturers may not have done it
I'm pretty sure that manufacturers will start making smaller phones with higher end specs, the question is just when

All I can say is imaging if the galaxy s6 went from 5.1" to 4". They would lose so much money.

Doubtful. I would buy that day one if that happened. Though split screen multitasking would probably be counterintuitive.

All I want is Samsung, LG, HTC or Motorola is to make a high ends device with a 4.3 inch display. That is all I ask.

And yet I've never seen one in the wild, and not even at a kiosk or store. I see Blackberries at all our local stores, and the people over on CB are always saying their stores don't carry BB - so how unpopular does that make the Mega? Ive never seen anything bigger than a Note from Samsung. Come to think of it, I've never seen the HTC One Maxx in a store either.

Every Target and Walmart I've been to has the dummy on display.

I wish ours did. They mostly have just the most popular phones out at ours, or the cheapest.

Fact check? lol S800 and 2GB RAM isn't powerful enough for you? Just google up Xperia Z1 Compact, a compact device with no compromises. Too bad I can't post links else I'd share it.

The upcoming Z3 compact will boast S801 and 3GB of RAM.

Alpha is a nice device, but the battery is worse than mediocre, just 1860 mAh.

I think it was the "more powerful than Alpha" part, not that it has nice specs. Not 100% sure of that, maybe he can elaborate.
