Who is To Blame for giant phones?

Well, that may show how smart Apple is, if they are sensitive to consumer trends (larger screens) but are still able to make consumers in your preference category happy. Sounds like a win-win for you and Apple. As an aside, I think the reason Apple has been hesitant to make larger phones is due to Jobs' earlier comments that Apple had discovered the holy grail of smartphone sizes (3.5"). Making the iPhone taller to reach 4" was arguably consistent with Jobs' vision, but now they will eat a little bit of crow if they follow the trend to larger phones.

But my whole point is, why can't Android smartphone makers offer this choice when Apple can do it. The most high end smaller device you can buy us the iPhone 5S or a Z1 Compact. That is stupid.

Like I inferred, that may mean that Apple is smarter than its competition. However, I suspect that Android smartphone makers probably think that a 5" phone would be more popular than a 4.7" phone and they are too close in size to manufacture both. Personally, I think 5" phones are closer to the mark than 4.7" phones but I realize people have their own preferences.

Not sure but it's not a gender thing because there are lots of women with Galaxy Notes.

Lol, when the Galaxy Note first came on AT&T a woman was using it the first time I saw it IRL. Was huge to me when I had a Droid Incredible 2 at the time.

me and all the other people who buy large phones because we like a large screen we can actually read.

I'll take the blame as well.

Sometimes when my family and friends shows me something on their 5S. I tell them to send me the link.

There is a smaller lg g3 available. Don't know what carrier you own. I believe it's on at&t only

It is also underpowered. I am talking high end specs in a smaller form factor.

Blame me... and most buyers as well.

Why are they making large screen phones? Because people are buying them up as fast as they can make them for the most part. Back when the SIII and Note 2 came out... people initially scoffed and made fun of the size. That is, until people bought them and realized that, gee, you could SEE! And around this time, faster more powerful networks began to spread. Watching higher definition video was now possible since you can both see and stream the content.

I mean, can anyone sit there with a straight face and say that they prefer to watch a video on an iPhone 5S over something like a Nexus 5 or Note 3? Because that's what phones have become... they've become mobile entertainment centers. And who hooks up their Bluray player to a 20 inch TV hung on their wall?

Yes, the smaller iPhone 5s is less bulky and if someone has small hands, it is easier to deal with, but people, even those with small hands gladly sacrificed a little bit of comfort for the return of getting a large screen.... The whole "people with small hands don't want big phones" is bunk... I mean, I see plenty of teenage girls around town rocking Notes.

over the past few years, EVERYTHING has gotten more complex; people are demanding that their cameras, which most now sport double-digit megapixel counts, show detail and they'll want to see that detail. Mobile games are no longer just graphically simple affairs like Angry Birds or Doodlejump... many of the top sellers are HD immersive 3D games that we used to only see on desktops and consoles.

Don't fret though, the leaks of the new Moto X show a device that really isn't that much bigger than the current model. Samsung just released a 4.7' screened phone.... Sony has an excellent unit and LG has one ready to come to market as well... not to mention the upcoming iPhone 6. There will be plenty of options in that size range.

Me? I say deal with it... I got big hands and a new G3.... as Goldilocks would say, it's just right.

Well I agree that most of these small sized smart phones available are underpowered, this is simply a marketing strategy.

If you look at samsung then you will see that they launch a massive no. Of devices in a year, they will launch a Galaxy S5, people will buy it, then they will launch a Galaxy S5 Advance or whatever with some more features and after that they will launch a S5 mini and then at the end a Note device.

Their strategy is to intimidate the customer to buy Product 1 and then launch a product 2 with something extra features, so at some point you would be intimidated to buy product 2 as well.

Think of a person who bought a S5, lets say he liked the phone but it was big in his hands, so their comes the s5 mini, that customer might later try it just to see that it is not as powerfull as the s5.
So in the end the customer might have tried a variety of their devices and can still be unsatisfied, on the other side the company makes a good profit out of it.
(Thats just my thought, I have no data supporting it.)

Leaving all that aside, can you specify the kind of usage you wanna do with your phone like heavy gaming or browsing etc.

Have you looked at the Moto x?

I haven't looked at that phone. I have looked at and I am seriously contemplating the Xperia 3 Compact.

You are stuck in a paradigm of Apple's creation. When I first saw the one handed operation of the iphone, I became hooked myself. But Samsung and the other android manufacturers showed that 2 handed operation with a bigger screen is the better customer choice. Apple's upcoming Iphone 6 is confirmation.
I have to agree with you though. Why won't these manufacturers make small form factor phones with the same specs as the big phones? I dislike these Ginormous phones myself.
Well at least Motorola is listening and they may just have a winner with the moto x+1 which is rumored to be not that much bigger than the x.

If I had too choose between an iPhone 5S or a G3, I would get the 5S because of it's size alone. The G3 is huge too me, tried holding it at my local Verizon and it was beyond difficult.

I use my smartphone as a tool, productivity mainly but I am no stranger to firing up Netflix to watch a video or two real quick and I have no problem doing that on a smaller phone like my RAZR M.

Another point no one seems to have mentioned is that there is a demographic that has not been discussed. People around the age of 40 are experiencing or will experience likely changes to their eyesight mostly to do with close up vision and the need for more light. There is a HUGE amount of consumers in this category. I myself am one. I own the following phones currently: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 3 and LG G2. The bigger the screen the easier it is for 'aged' eyes to read. ALSO, this 40+ demographics are also the ones with more money and therefore perhaps buy more devices. I never have less than 3 phones as I like to change things up.

I know a lot of people who thought the SGS3 was a big phone until they tried one and then loved them. Yes they are big at first, but there are software tweaks to help people use them one handed. Like the dialer which can be made smaller and to one side or the other for one handed operation. After you get used to the phone for a week or so, going back to an iPhone 4 (which I previously had to my S3) seemed like it was child sized. I am an average sized female and the S3 is a perfect size.

So yes there is a market for high end phones that are 4", but those wanting phones like that are currently the minority. We all know that companies are going to target the majority to make more money. Having options for the minority yes seems to be available but in limited variety, quality and quantity.
