Who's switching to Samsung Galaxy S2? (Epic 4G Touch)

E4GT or not?

Should I jump to the E4GT in December, when my 1-year is up even though I only save $75 or should I wait out another year? The E4GT has everything I want and more but I don't know if I should go for it.

Re: E4GT or not?

it all depends on you. me for example, I paid $350 - $100 mail-in-rebate = $250 for my epic. Right now I would love to have the money to buy the Epic touch when it's released on the 16th but that's not the case. Seeing how you can now buy the Epic 4G for $50 to $99 (depending where u buy it at) it's stupid to drop $200 on the Touch in my opinion. I'd say if you have the money to pay for the Touch and don't care how much u paid for the Epic then get the Touch. But maybe you can save some money by waiting on December to get it then.

On another note, if you're referring to "Which one is better, Epic4G or Epic 4G Touch?" then that's an obvious answer: Epic 4G Touch. Good luck.

I am going to upgrade to the Touch. I become a Premier Gold customer in October so I will qualify for the $199 upgrade then, and I won't have to wait until November 2012 to qualify.

But I won't jump in right away.

Actually I am more anxious to see what the development community does with it before I jump in. Rooting has spoiled me and I'd like reliable, stable ROMs because I have no taste for the bloatware and limited functionality.

I'll hang on to my Epic 4G until December or so, maybe longer. See what goodies the development community comes up with.

As much as I like my Epic I am very disappointed in Samsung's inability to get a working GB release on it. This along with the froyo mess has me looking to the next Nexus phone for my upgrade. As nice as I am sure the Epic Touch is I would rather wait for a phone that will be supported.

Well, really, my decision just depends on when the Nexus Prime drops on to Sprint (if it even does). But I will most likely go with an E4GT because I don't want my upgrade to be on a phone with a nonexistent release date.

I managed to get my upgrade back and become a gold member so I will be jumping on the SGSII bandwagon come October 11th. I got my upgrade back by this method !! Everyone !! Needs !!to !!Know !!! - xda-developers.

Nice!! I'll be calling them for this! My partial upgrade was effective at the beginning of this month so they should be able to bump me up for full upgrade. What I don't understand is why people are so surprised that Sprint is doing this, lol! You are essentially renewing your contract EARLY for another 2 years. Renewing contracts is what they are trained to do!!

Love my Epic, but I'm going to grab the Touch on the 16th from sprint online so I don't have to pay the $36 activation fee. Been up for an upgrade since Aug1st.

The only reason I'm going with the Samsung Epic 4G Touch is because I don't want to change my user name. :)

Pre ordered on wirefly today, can't wait!

Be sure to come back and give us a review here and make sure you hit up the Epic Touch section and let them know what you think.

Thanks!

I sure will. I cut my android teeth on the Epic, and this forum has been a great resource. Hope to see you all over on the Epic Touch forums.

You might see some others from here move over but I will be sticking on my NS4G now until Sprint gets the Nexus Prime. Unless for some reason Sprint doesn't get the Prime then you might see me move back to the Epic Touch 4g/TW UI..... (Once you taste Pure Google the thought of going back to carrier/device UI's is scary... LOL )

Best of luck skyward, we enjoyed having you here in the Epic 4g section :)

I ordered mine yesterday. I figured with a 30 day window I can see if the Nexus Prime gets announced. If it does Ill just jump back to my OG Epic till that arrives.

how long between the Epic 4G and announcement of the Nexus 4G on Sprint? it could be that long between the Touch and Prime (if at all).

the Touch is definitely nice, and i'm sure the dev community will be huge for it. but since i'm okay with my current Epic, i'll wait a bit longer, too.

I'm sort of in a win/lose position. The 'win' part of my position is that my upgrade is on the first of December so I can get the E4GT right when my upgrade is eligible and see if the Nexus Prime comes out within the 30 day window. The 'lose' part of my position is that I have to wait till December to get the E4GT.

I really like the fact that so many people are considering the Prime as an option. Goes to show how far many of you have come that your willing to explore the option of AOSP and the freedom of no bloat and being dependent on carrier provided updates.

At the same time I think the Epic Touch will be very successful, it should have a good following in the dev community especially since most of what is going on currently with GB leaks in the Epic community should easily transfer over to the Epic Touch.... The only changes will be whatever the new TW/Sammy UI involves....

Seriously, if the Prime doesn't come to Sprint after all (read, IF) and I had to pick the E4GT, I would still be far from disappointment. 4.5 inches of SAMOLED+ goodness, 1.2ghz dual core exynos, an excellent camera along with a 2mp front camera, not to mention android 2.3.4, all in a 8.59mm shell. You seriously can't go wrong with that ;)

You definitely have a point Officer.. My only fear is updates... How long will everyone be stuck on the same version of OS that it ships with... Say it ships with GB 2.3.4, how long will it take to get 2.3.5/2.3.6 ? ICS?

Thats my biggest fear is once again users being passed up by every other device out there while Sammy drags their butt in the update department..

But at least its shipping with GB!
