Who's switching to Samsung Galaxy S2? (Epic 4G Touch)

You definitely have a point Officer.. My only fear is updates... How long will everyone be stuck on the same version of OS that it ships with... Say it ships with GB 2.3.4, how long will it take to get 2.3.5/2.3.6 ? ICS?

Thats my biggest fear is once again users being passed up by every other device out there while Sammy drags their butt in the update department..

But at least its shipping with GB!

That is a valid point. I think I have expressed this quite a bit around the forums lately, but I will only want ICS if there is something groundbreaking in it. I want the difference to be like eclair to froyo, not froyo to gingerbread. But the fact that Samsung doesn't even update their phones to the latest OS makes me a bit disappointed in them. I could imagine all the customers they would reel in. That's really the only reason why HTC fans have stuck with HTC. That, and their build quality (materials and such) but I don't mind if my phone is plastic as it's nothing more, nothing less...

given that this will be my 'last' yearly upgrade with sprint I may get something by december 31, whether it is touch or prime or ip5 (if its dual cdma/gsm). The unlimited data plan is the only thing keeping me with sprint. If they take that away too I will be moving to gsm for sure. It is so much more convenient for traveling abroad.

good point about the "last" yearly upgrade. my epic will have to do (which it is) until i find a really really good reason to upgrade. the epic touch 4g is nice, but not enough to make it so.

I just picked up an Epic 4G Touch, and I miss the slide out KB. I like the speed, it makes my original Epic seem slow. Concerns will be the battery life, and the missing KB. 3455 in Quadrant, which I know its subjective, but none the less, 3455 is still pretty good. My brother will buy my original Epic for the cost of my upgrade, so I broke even :-).

I really like the fact that so many people are considering the Prime as an option. Goes to show how far many of you have come that your willing to explore the option of AOSP and the freedom of no bloat and being dependent on carrier provided updates.

At the same time I think the Epic Touch will be very successful, it should have a good following in the dev community especially since most of what is going on currently with GB leaks in the Epic community should easily transfer over to the Epic Touch.... The only changes will be whatever the new TW/Sammy UI involves....

I'm in a fortunate situation... knowing how to take advantage of protection plans means I can get a new phone whenever I want, really. Takes 15 days or so, but it's worth it.

bestbuy's service plan is $10 a month... basically that means you get a new phone for $120 every year, while avoiding upgrades. No idea why some people don't get that.

What does this mean?
I'm getting the E4GT soon, and if/when the prime comes out, I'll be getting that too(assuming the specs are as mouth-watering as they sound). iPhone5? Not my cup of tea, but if I wanted to- why not? etc.

Hey Brandon4EK, how to take advantage of the protection plans. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

Why not, the system screws us over with fradulent things too.

Exactly... And the system wins far more often than we do. I'm like this at work too... I used to not be, but after seeing our contact bastardized, and every loophole exploited by the company, I've shifted into a "get away with whatever I can" mentality. The system can whine about the "unfairness" of it, but considering they started it, and get away with more than we do... Hell yeah, exploit when able! ;-)

Went to the Sprint Store here in town today and messed around with the Epic Touch, I really like it. Only issue is that I am not eligible for upgrade until next year. I do hit the 1 year mark on 1 Oct, at which point, I could get it for about $340 figuring 499 for the phone - 75 for 1 year upgrade - 85 for the buyback of my Epic. Though I may just stick with my Epic due to knowing that in a year, the Galaxy S 3 will be out, and I will want it too.

I just got this from Sprint on Friday, after a few months of research, deciding what I should get as well as waiting for my upgrade to take effect. I LOVE it! But then I was using a Samsung Moment for the last 2 years. I dug it cuz of the keyboard and it served me well. The Galaxy S II's 4.5 " super amoled screen is amazing, and i love that I can take screen shots with no root. I am playing around with Swype, and it just may become my preferred text input mode. But this is coming from someone who had a physical keyboard for her entire smartphone experience.

It is lightning fast and all the benchmark tests and comparisons I have checked out prove that it blows all the current competition outta the water. The battery is decent. But of course , it won't be far from a charger. Maybe it would last a day and a half with light use and power saving options in place. Nice customization too tho I wish there were more tweaks available. Not sure how comfortable I am with the whole rooting thing.

So yeah..very happy with my decision :D

Wanted to put up a screen shot but this is my first post.
