Why am I getting email notifications?

I have my work email synced to be sent to my EVO but I don?t want any notifications. I can go into the mail app and tap menu > more > settings > notification settings and uncheck the email notifications, but I still get the little green dot over my mail icon. I?ve tried rebooting the phone and even deleting and re-adding the email account to my EVO and nothing has worked.

Any ideas?

I wasn’t using the widget. I did have the shortcut to the email app on my front screen. I just tried something different and I think it worked. I deleted the activesync account, removed the app from my front screen, powered down the phone and left the battery out for 5 minutes. Then I powered the phone back up, added the app link back to my home screen and added the activesync account back to the phone.

So far, it seems to be working.

I'm still getting unwanted notifications.
