Why am I getting the error message Unfortunately, Google Search has stopped. ?

Hey guys. Can anyone explain how they uninstalled updates? The only option i have on my nexus 5 in the playstore is to open the "google" app.

Go to Settings, scroll down to Apps, scroll to All. From there scroll down to the app you want to uninstall. Tap on the app and a page opens with various options including Uninstall.

If the option is unavailable to you from the App Info page, then you probably don't have updates to uninstall (a likely scenario if you've recently updated to Lollipop, which ships with the latest Google Search version).

If you have Lollipop installed on your device, then you can't uninstall updates to the Google [Search] app. I deleted all the data from the screen mrsmumbles referenced.

I did a FDR and still had this error pop up today even though it took a few more days to act up. Anyone else still having issues? Wonder if an update to google search app is needed or if 5.0.1 would do anything in the future? Guess well find out eventually.

I disabled Google Search since there seems to be no option to uninstall. I simply use the Chrome browser to search now. The problem for me appears to be directly related to the search app at the top on the home screen. This is a Metro phone LG optimus

Hi, did you try uninstalling the updates on the Google Search app?

Google has a bad "patch" out according to TMobile. Here is what he told me to do with my Samsung Galaxy and it fixed it...Go to Settings app...select "application manager"...swipe to the far right so you can list "All" apps....scroll down to Google Search and click on it (if there are two then click on the one with the one that has the google sign next to it....Select "Clear data". Should fix it.

I did what Kat did. None of the other solutions worked. This solution, although not perfect, gave relief. Now I just use Chrome for searches.

I was literally 10 minutes from taking a hammer to the phone and getting an I phone.

This is a serious issue for me, so please have a solution and don't post for the sake of posting a reply
Thank you moderator for banning Benjamin. Complete time waster

I reset my phone to factory settings and it went away for a few days and its back..

I used one of the suggestions to clear data for google search and also disabled it.. Worked like a charm.. Thanks guys

Re: "Unfortunately, Google Search has stopped." - crashing often and killing battery

The search bar quit working on my Nexus 6. It would open and run. No error messages, no 'Unfortunately Google search has...' it just stopped giving any results. So I did:
Settings > Apps > All > Selected the Google app > Force stop > Clear cache
Nothing else. I did not tap on Clear data. All is well.
Did a little looking around after that and apparently Search has a bug that is causing some cache file problems.

Re: "Unfortunately, Google Search has stopped." - crashing often and killing battery

I have a Motorola XT907. I can't find the Application Manager on it. The 'Google Search has stopped' message keeps popping up each time I touch the screen and even when I don't touch it. Also, is Google Search part of any other app? It doesn't show up in my apps?

Re: "Unfortunately, Google Search has stopped." - crashing often and killing battery

Application Manager is in the main Settings, scroll down a bit to 'Apps'. Google Search is a round icon with a multi-color 'G' on a white background. Listed in Apps > scroll right to 'All'. It's listed simply as 'Google App'.

Thank you Robb9, you rock! Great instructions. This seems to have done the trick on a Samsung Galaxy Reverb (Virgin Mobile) that had suddenly started getting this error message today.

just fixed it on my phone.

wipe it. Reset to factory setting. Removes everything. My phone was so bad it was having problems working that error was slowing everything to a crawl.
