Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped

I've been using my S5 on Verizon all week while on vacation in Caribbean. The phone is in airplane mode and I am using wifi at the hotel for past 5 days.

Suddenly, today I keep this same error message. Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped.

It comes up so often that I can't check my email or do anything with the phone. I have to keep pressing "ok" button repeatedly but the phone is basically useless at this point.

What should I try to do in order to resolve? (Besides complete format of the phone)

Please help. Thanks.

I would start with wiping the google cache in the apps section. This may do the trick. Factory reset would be a last resort given your on holiday in the fun Caribbean, which island are you on btw? I have been on about 8 cruises and stopped at many, many islands. I would also suggest Red Stripe or Carib Beers, you can get them locally for a $1 and they are awesome.
