I have a pixel 4xl. On my old S8, this wasn't an issue but now happens on this phone. I go into Facebook to post a comment. If I do a gif search it posts a media.tenor link, not the actual gif. On messenger, when someone sends me a pic or video clip, all it shows is downloading photo(or video). Eventually on messenger it will show but like I said, never did this on the S8

One of the first things I tried. I heard this was an issue with the pixel not getting along with Facebook and the messenger app.

Is this happening both on WiFi and mobile data? I'm not sure about Facebook but in similar apps there are settings to change how and when to auto-download that kind of media files. Maybe you have some restrictions selected in the app settings.

I haven't tried looking into settings. Yes this was on mobile and wifi. The picture in messenger eventually shows your is weird that when it gets sent all it shows is "person sent a picture"(person being the contact) I click it, it changes to downloading photo but nothing pops up. I go on about my business and come back later, there's the photo or video. I figured a workaround to the gif thing on Facebook. If I Google a specific gif, download it, it will save to my gallery then I can post the actual gif and not the tenor link. Usually one of my kids is sending me something funny in messenger. I will grab a screenshot to post here so you guys can see what it is saying.

Check the app's permissions in Settings>Apps and make sure it has permission for SMS and Storage, just to be sure.

Also, make sure Android System Webview is fully up to date in the Play Store.

Sorry for taking so long. I get the seen message after clicking on it.

I kept clicking out of messenger and going back in. No change. Restarted phone and pic was there. I know there is something I am missing, I just can't figure it out.

Glad I'm not the only one with this issue. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling too, to no prevail. Tell me, do you have multiple users on your phone?
