I'm seeing double (and I'm not even drunk)

Whenever I connect my Android tablet to my PC with an USB cable, and I view the files using Windows Explorer (clicking on This PC > Devices and drives > ME173 > Internal storage) I notice that there are always two folders of each name (e. g. two folders named "FrostWire"). The folders' contents are not identical though, just the names.

Why is that, please?

I have an Asus MEMOpad ME173X running Android 4.2.2 and a laptop running Windows 8.1 Update.

Many thanks for your input.

Welcome to the forums. Does the device show only the single set of folders? I am curious if the drivers might need updating?

According to Driver Booster 2 the driver Asus Android MTP Device is up to date.

PS: Good question. Yes, an Android file manager shows only one "set" of folders.
I suspect that the Asus MTP driver mixes up the partitions /mnt/storage and /mnt/storage2.
This phenomenon occurs both under Windows 7 and 8.1. From your reaction I fathom that this behaviour isn't common for all Android devices.
